Special things at WDW (not rides)?

Highly recommend A Pirates Adventure: Treasure of the Seven Seas. This is a scavenger hunt throughout Adventureland. Use a paper map to navigate the land and locate places where you will use your tickets / magicband to activate scenes and audio animatronics. Then off the next spot. I think there are three adventures open at the moment. I guarantee your little ones will be entertained!

Pass Pirates of the Carribean on your left, there will be a little hut also your left. There will be a cast member to get you started.

For the pirate adventure activity, will old magic bands work? Or do you need the new ones?

Can't say for certain but when you go to the hut to start, if your older magicband doesn't work, I think the cast member can give you a pass / ticket to play the game.

Aside from rides character hunting & pin trading are my go-to Disney park activities

The game is older than MagicBand+ so the old ones should work.

Just a heads up - at the Princess meals (in addition to the Castle in MK and Akershus in Epcot, there are a few others - 1900 Park Fare at the GF, Artist Point at the WL, maybe another I can't think of!) the princesses don't actually eat with you. They go table to table and stay long enough to interact a bit, sign autographs, and pose for pictures. It was totally worth it when my children were little and they still loved the character meals as teens and young adults.
