We are looking at the possibility of combining a stay at Vero Beach along with a week-long stay at the BC. Typically we have done the beach first and then gone to Disney but are thinking about trying the reverse. We also usually go on the gulf side not the Atlantic. Any comments on what Vero Beach is like? Our kids will be 8 and 5 when we go. Is this a good resort for them? Any other suggestions? Would we be wrong to visit the Atlantic and be better served to stay on the gulf side? We are big beach and shell lovers!!

Thanks for your input :flower1:

We went in May for two nights and LOVED IT. We stayed mostly in the pool, they have a huge slide, children's play area, lots of shallow water, etc. They have activies everyday for kids, some are down by the pool. Each night there is a campfire with songs and roasting marshmellows. I like laying on a chair more than the beach, so we stayed by the pool most of the time, and there were TONS of kids and families playing together. You can also borrow games to play, pool toys, rent bikes to ride, basketballs, etc. Oh - there's a mini golf area, there is a kids club they can go to for an evening while you and DH have dinner, and there are videos to rent to take back to your room. They also have a massage therapist that is very affordable =)

The beach is nice, too - it's not the best in the world, but it's private wtih TONS of shells to collect. We had a good time collecting them and playing. There were lots of families and kids out there, too, but it wasn't crowded.

It was a very relaxing time. There were activities to participate in if you wanted, or you could just sit and read. They have 2 restaurants, then the pool place which is pretty good too.

I think you'd love it, and your kids would enjoy being able to pick what they want to do in a relatively safe environment. Lots of activities and fun =)

(if you go the right time of hte year, you can see the turtles nesting - we just missed it, but because of the sea turtles that nest in the dunes around hte resort, all the lights are dim at night, and you can't go onto the beach late at night and wander around... they offer tours to see them when the time is right, along with other activities like canoe trip and such)

We went to VB in July 2003. In our group was myself, DH, DS (13 at the time), DS's best friend (also 13 at the time), our best friends and their 2 daughters (7 and 12 at the time). We stayed in a 2 BR (I couldn't believe how HUGE it was - our first DVC stay other than a studio) for 5 nights before our WDW week long stay. It was our first time at VB and WE LOVED IT!!! We hung out at the pool a lot. My son and his friend bought boogie boards and boogie boarded in the ocean until they were raw (literally - ouch, can you say Gold Bond ointment!!). They also liked the teen activities. Our friend's daughters really enjoyed the pool activities and organized games. We won the "turtle walk lottery" and my friend, my DS, DS's friend and friend's oldest daughter did the night time turle walk. It was VERY buggy at night with no-see-ums. My son and his friend's legs looked awful for weeks and I was very vigilant about putting OFF on them. We explored outside VB a bit and ate at some local restaurants. Capt. Hiram's had great food at very reasonable prices. Sitting out on the deck watching the water and boats while we ate was incredible. Mel Fisher's treasure museum was cool. I didn't know that he was a fellow Hoosier until we went there. It was a very relaxing trip. My only regret is that I wish we had gone to VB after WDW to recouperate! I have been to WDW at least 20 times, but every time I go I turn into a little kid who wants to do everything and not sleep!! VB would have been a good wind down after a week in the parks going, going, going. We will definitely be going back. Enjoy!!

. . . and we love it! It is very relaxing and feels so secure. Our kids DD 11 & DS love it too. We spend almost the entire day at the pool until a thunderstorm rolls through at which point we get a movie to take back to the room. Then we wander out somewhere for dinner and as soon as we're back the kids want to be back in the pool. The no-seeums are horrible!!! There's no doubt about that, but it doesn't stop us from loving the place.

The staff is soooooo friendly. The activities for kids are great. It is so laid back. I just can't believe how fast the days fly by doing really . . . nothing much at all. It's a time when I can really sit back and enjoy my kids. Life moves so fast that sometimes I just need that kind of environment to soak them in.

DH took a water color class last time too and had lots of fun painting a picture of the castle.

Vero Beach is the easiest beach vacation ever. We went for the 1st time last May when I was pregnant, we are going back this year with a 7 month old. (and her 4 year old sister.)

I can't say enough good things about the place. Disney Deluxe resort quaility at the beach. What more to say.

You made me remember about the free movie rentals. My friends DDs LOVED bringing back a movie to their room (the studio portion of the 2 BR) to watch before going to bed. They don't have TVs in their bedrooms at home, so it was an extra special treat to watch TV in bed. My DH took a scuba diving class which he really enjoyed. He was the only one who signed up so he had the instructor all to himself. I signed up my friend's youngest DD for the Unbirthday party which she really liked. One day my friend and I took the girls and went shopping at the outlet malls, always a good time, even on vacation!!

Based on those rave reviews how can we not go? Thank you all so much for replying, it has put my mind at ease to know that Vero Beach will be the perfect relaxtion stop after a whirlwind tour of Disney. One last question, any suggestions on where I can get pics of the resort? Thanks again :flower1:
