Vero Beach in Dec with toddler?

Being a new father (21 months) I am fascinated at the love my little man has of the sand/water (stayed at poly in aug). We are going to villas at wild lodge over Christamas break and had the question: Is it worth to go over to Vero for the one night during our wdw stay. Our concerns would be the weather in Dec on that beach and is the beach worth going to? (have heard various opinions. thanks

I don't know that it's worth it for just one day, especially in the questionable Dec. weather. There's sand and a beach over at wilderness lodge. You can go in the water there. Doesn't poly offer that as well? Can't remember. For us, Vero is a place to kick back and unwind for several days, a short one day trip isn't going to do that for you. Just my $0.02. Enjoy your vacation.

Too biased here to give an opinion.LOL but the weather is definitely unpredictable.The weather in Nov can be iffy and it has been more like summer around here lately and the water temp as well. About to change according to the news.It can be wonderful one day then a coldfront blows through and it could ruin your day at the beach.But you will see some of us nuts out there with metal detectors looking for relics like it was a lovely sunshiny day.
If you have the time it is worth a look. You may want to stay for a longer period in the future.

Here's one other thing to consider. We stayed at VB when one of our granddaughters was 26 months. We took her onto the beach, but after she got knocked over by a couple of waves she wanted no part of it. So I wouldn't think it's worth the trip just for that. If the weather turns out to be nice, you've got some options at WDW anyway.

Brrr, too cold! Don't forget that there is *always* a strong breeze on the ocean front. Even if it says 70 (which is unlikely) on the thermometer, it will feel like 60. And once he gets wet, he'll get even colder.

December is usually too cold in Florida. I'd be inclined to say don't do it. If the weather turns out to be unusually warm rent a car for a day and take I-4 to the beaches over by StPete/Clearwater or take the Beeline to the Atlantic. I would recommend StPete/Clearwater over any of the Atlantic Beaches because the Gulf is so much warmer and calmer.

Atlantic Beaches...just over an hour. Gulf Beaches about 90 minutes to 2 hours.

Another option would be to fly into Tampa/StPete and stay there for the weekend. It would be dirt cheap to get ocean front accomodations and again you would be dealing with the gulf not the Atlantic.
