I love the look of Vero Beach on all the sites and reviews sound pretty good. I'm just a bit concerned about the area itself. A review on mouseplanet said best stay inside the Disney area as the beach is neither wide nor attractive! I thought it would be lovely to be so close to the ocean - is it really unattractive??

LOL!!! There is always someone who doesn't like something! The beach at Vero is a bit hard to describe. It is not a huge tourist beach like at Atlantic City or Jones Beach. It is more like stepping into Mother Nature -- kind of a wild beach. The beach is pretty narrow and, depending upon the surf, gets bigger or smaller. It feels very private, even though there is a public beach right next door. The sand has lots of shells in it but it is certainly not dirty. All Florida beaches have problems with tar and this does sometimes washup here as well. The one thing to remember is that surf and undertow can get rough and there is no lifeguard. You can go to the public beach to get a lifeguard.

As for surrounding area, it is millionaire's row. There is an area coming into Vero between I-95 and the waterfront that is quite depressed. But, once again, that happens in Florida where you get the areas that have not been developed yet and people are living as they have for years as crop workers. In fact, things seem to be getting more and more built up in the Vero area every year.

Personally, I'll take the more natural beauty and uncrowded area of Vero's beach any day over the more popular tourist beaches. ;)

We've stayed at VB (and are going back on our next trip to Florida). I thought the resort was just gorgeous, and found the beach very clean and attractive. But I've never set foot on either of the beaches Pam mentioned.

Really just wanted to say that VB is about a two hour drive from WDW. It makes a great pre or post WDW vacation or a vacation all by itself, but I wouldn't want to stay there and drive to WDW everyday. That's probably not what you are intending, but your post could be interpreted that way, so thought I'd mention the distance.

Why not give VB a try and see what YOU think?

Vero Beach (at least the resort) = Awesome. The beach is great, clean water rules (LI sound water is very dirty). Yes the beach is narrow so? It is a great area.

I liked the beach at VB. You can not drive on it as you can at St. Augustine but none the less you don't have to worry about vehicles. It's narrow and the surf ca nget ruff but that is because the Gulf Stream is close. I liked the beach. It was quiet and clean. And you bet, I would go back!

The beach is narrow, but so is ALL of the beach front along that stretch of land. VB is our "home" and we love it!! It's quiet, elegant, and many things to do there or near by. Our last stay there in July, we had an ocean view, 1 bdrm in the inn, and it was great!!!

Have to agree with all of the above.Stayed at Vero many times and although there is some TAR on the beach it has been very clean. Have to agree with PAM "The one thing to remember is that surf and undertow can get rough and there is no lifeguard. You can go to the public beach to get a lifeguard".

Have a great time.

Your perception of Vero Beach will depend on what you are there for. If you want to relax on the beach I don't think you can go wrong. If you have been to one of the pink coral beaches of Bermuda or one of the best beaches of Hawaii you may say Vero is not the #1 beach in the world. Vero is a very, very nice beach that lends itself to relaxation because it is located (as Pam pointed out) in an area of very expensive homes. The adjacent public beach is small and well cared for. It is not one of the mega beaches (with amusements) one might find in New Jersey or Myrtle Beach. The public beach is not small, you can walk for miles but there is parking for only a limited number of cars so I can't imagine too large a crowd using it. When I was there last June the beach was about 150 feet from the dunes to the water in front of the resort. There were other spots that were much wider elsewhere. However, there weren't enough people around to make me feel the beach was too small. If you have children and want carnival rides this area is not for you. If you want a quiet time to recover from WDW - it is a great place. Sonya's Brunch at the Vero Resort is fantastic. An off site restaurant on A1A (The Black Pearl) is out of this world for couples. the Green Cabin Room at Vero (for drinks and snacks) has a wonderful view of the ocean. Hope this helps you.

BobH! We were there last June also! I completely agree with you. VB is much more laid back. We had one of the GV with a party of 11 and felt like we had the beach to ourselves. This was in June! This is why we made VB our home resort. Everyone loves it. We had ages ranging from 10yrs to Grandma! You won't regret a stay there!

BobH and HollyH,

Thanks for the great reviews. Thats why we just added points (110) at VB, without even seeing it yet. We are going this June 29th for a week in a 1BR. We wanted to have the 11 month window and access to the GV's there, when we retire. We wanted a nice quiet place to relax at and we are glad we did!!!:D
