Rob,

Have been following the thread and figured that it is about time that i subscribed, we will be at Vero from April 1st (no joke) until April 10th this year. This is our 4th year going at this time, and we have met people all four years that we will be hanging out with again. The only way to describe this is to have someone watch the movie Dirty Dancing, and understand that they all go back to the camp for the same week every year.

Give us a trip report!! How warm is the water in April? That is just too cool about your friends and all. Love Dirty Dancing, I hope we meet some friends too when we go in August. :goodvibes

Does anyone know if Ozzie's Crabshack in Grant has re-opened since the fire?

...Now THAT place is about as authentic as it gets... I sure hope they're able to recover and reopen.

...It's on US-1 - north of Sebastian. It's very close to the antique mall, there... which is pretty decent, also.

Oh - and OP - if you'd like to add us to the roll call... We'll be there 8/29-9/03.

...We go every Labor Day - unless we have a storm.

We'll be there from the 6th through the um, whatever the friday checkout is :confused3 ;) . This is the first time we've gone to Vero, and we've been asking ourselves lately, why did it take us so long to figure out this would be a GREAT idea for spring break??? It sounds like it's the one place on the entire planet that WON'T be crowded-ah, heaven!

Hi, Tom, we've gone a couple of times in July, but this year we'll be there from 3/30 - 4/5. This is the first time we've gone in the spring. How's the weather and water? We're really excited to be going. Have never been on a "spring break" before :)

I actually posted a thread and didn't get a response. Maybe someone on the VB lovers thread might know :)

Last July, we stayed in a studio which had an old sofabed (which was not at all suitable to sleep on; it was beyond worn out).

Our next visit will be in a 1 BR in 12 days. Does anyone know if the 1BR's (or any sized unit) at VB have gotten new sofabeds?

TIA :goodvibes

Hey everyone,

Usually the weather is in the mid to low 80's and will get down in the 60's at night, there are not any bugs at all, so it is almost perfect, that is based off coming in from Michigan where the only thing colder right now is the economy.

As far as the Ocean temps, it is usually in the low 70's, in fact I just checked the Cocoa Beach water temp and it was 71 today and remember that we are about an hour and fifteen south of there. Last year the Ocean was like glass for most of the week we were there, in 06 there were some waves but not bad, but in 05 the waves were awesome, at least that is how I looked at it, probably to rough for little kids, but for adults it was incredible.

Either way, this has to be one of the most relaxing vacations that we take, I set the Queen up at the Pool in the morning and then I set up camp (the man cave) on the beach. We spend all day going back and forth, (well not as much since I now put a cooler at each location) and this year it will be for 10 straight days.

Any more questions and I will do my best,

Tom

Have you noticed any jelly fish (or should I say Man-o-war) in the water? I think the fall has something called Red Tide? An algea I think. Sounds like heaven. I can't wait till August, although I wish I were to have your weather!!:goodvibes

BWV Dreaming,

Last year was the first year that I noticed the dreaded Man-O-War, I was walking the beach early one morning and it looked as if someone had blown bubbles with bubble gum and left it all over the beach. At the time I did not know what they were, my oldest had been stung by a jellyfish when we were on the Disney Cruise and I know how bad that was, but we were told that the sting from a Man-O-War is worse. As far as I am concerned I will take that, because my family is not interested in comparing the two.

At the Wabaso beach life guard stand, they will hang warnings flags up and one of them is for the Man-O-Wars.

A couple of things that I thought of that we do that others might be interested in, bring a flash light to go crabbing on the beach at night. At night if you walk the beach, you will see all sort of little white crabs running sideways on the beach, my kids think that this is an absolute blast. They catch 50 a night and bring them up for everyone to see before turning them loose back on the beach.

The other thing is I wanted to post a website that I found, Orchid Island Pizza is very good and they will deliver right to the resort, there is a copy of the menu at the resort, but here is a link to their website so you can prepare before you go.

Have a great day.

Thanks for all the great info, Belle&Rella's Dad! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the menu! I will print this and add to my VB restaraunt collection. Did not know about the flag and Man-o-war. I will be sure to look for that. Post a trip report when you go in April. Just sounds like heaven.

Belle & Rella's Dad, one more question...How are the noseeums this time of year (I get eaten alive in July :sad1: ). Thanks.

Mrs. Nick,

No problems with Bugs (Now watch the Locus come in), in the 3 years that we have been there. I think because it gets down into the 60's at night that it still might be a little early for them.

KJJ,

As far as catching the crabs, yes they definately have pinchers, the little ones really don't hurt that bad, but the big ones will draw blood for sure. The best way to pick them up is right behind the pinchers, but they are very fast and will try to dig themselves into the beach. It is actually really fun, and you will hear quite a bit of screaming and squealing coming from the beach (and that is just the adults).

BWV Dreaming,

I will try to check in while I am at Vero, it will usually be in the morning while The Queen and my Princesses are still getting their beauty rest, but before I am required to secure their chairs at the cement pond. After that, unless the wireless signal reaches the beach I am out!!! I am not much of a trip report guy (not that there is anything wrong with that, but I know what I am good at and what I am not) but I would love to check in and touch base with all.

Talk to all soon,

Tom
