Verifying a Villa's Credibility

Awhile back we rented a pool home near Disney. At the time someone gave some advice on how to check that the pool home did in fact exist and was in fact owned by who claimed to own it.

Does anyone remember these steps? We are in the process of the final few we are choosing for our January trip. Just wanting to make sure the house is really there if you know what I mean.
