Any thoughts on this? Both have a view but different size balcony's. Traveling with Disney Dand and Disney Daughter. First time cruisers.

depends....what category are these staterooms? and if you don't mind sharing, what staterooms are they?

Stupid question - aren't they one and the same? DCL doesn't refer to rooms with balconies, just verandas - either a regular veranda or a navigator's veranda. Right?

Sorry, I didnt know any questions asked on this board were considered "STUPID". I am a first time cruiser as I mentioned so "pardon me." For anyone out there that wants to respond to my question that and does not think it is stupid, I meant to inquire about regular vs. navigators veranda. If you have any positive feedback I would appreciate it.

sorry - I was shocked when I saw that "stupid question" too
Hopefully you will get your answer shortly

Wow, here we go again. I don't want to answer for anyone else - but I read it to mean the poster thought her question not yours was a stupid question because she had never heard of balconies being refered to before. I have never been in anything higher then a CAT9 so I don't have an answer to your question. But I think there are 2 types of veranda cabins, one inclosed and the other open.

Actually, maybe I'm being naive here, but I think gometros was refering to themself, as in ...

(this may be a) stupid question, but aren't they one and the same?

That's how I would read it anyhow :)

The poster was saying her question was stupid..not yours..

jeesh...relax...you will never make it on the cruise if you don't!

Thats the way I took it too.

I am amazed that anyone would call someone else's question "stupid". How positively rude and stupid! We have always had regular verandahs when we sailed DCL so I don't know that much about the Navigator's verandahs. I do think, however, that all the Navigators are enclosed -- in other words, not open to the air as the verandahs are. I wouldn't have answered this question since I'm definitely not an expert on Navigator's Verandahs but I just had to let you know how badly I feel that someone on this board would make fun of your question. I thought the whole point of the board was to help each other out. Anyway, have a great cruise - you will love DCL!

Hi 'wildabouttheworld'

Certainly not a stupid question.

Each cruise line will call it a balcony or verandah. As far as the navigator's verandah vs. regular goes, go to this site:

www.castawayclub.com

Click on the links for stateroom photos. They have photos of both types of verandah's. :earsboy:

Stupid question - aren't they one and the same?

I took this to mean "The following is a stupid question... aren't they one and the same?

If gometros was trying to insult you, I think the post would have been "Stupid question - they are one and the same."

As for as an answer without digging through
www.castawayclub.com site (which seems to have lots of great information), you are either trying to compare verandas with railing and plexiglass v. solid metal railing OR verandas v. navigator's veranda OR a standard veranda v. veranda's in Cat 3 and above.

Veranda's are as wide as your cabin, so if you have a Cat 3 and above, you have a much wider veranda that the standard.

The web site already referenced has lots of pictures showing the veranda's with metal railings that are on the curve on the back of the ship compared to railings and plexiglass at mid-ship.

If you are wondering about the navigator's verandas, there seems to be two types. The first is described on the above listed web site as well, where part of your view out the veranda is obstructed, so it goes for the price of the navigator's veranda. But the typical navigator's veranda seems to be totally enclosed except for the LARGE port hole. If you look at a picture of the boat towards the back, you will see where verandas seem to end and a solid skin begins with port holes. Thes port holes (with out glass) are the typical navagator's veranda.

Hope this helped.

I'm thinking that perhaps wildabouttheworld was getting the verandah cabins and navigator cabins confused. That is why I asked what category and stateroom numbers. I'd still like to help more if I could. I would suggest reading the descriptions that "Worldtraveler777" gave and then give us more information.

on a side note -- Replies like this newbie got are just going to scare away people from this board if this stuff keeps up. The attacking back and forth is just terrible! And telling someone "jeesh...relax...you will never make it on the cruise if you don't!" is just an attack on character. I thought we were all here to help one another. But the negativity is just overwhelming anymore.

You beat me to it, HooKooDooKu! :teeth:

OHMYGOD!! Sandy slaps palm against forehead That will teach me to think about what I'm writing before posting. Of course I would NEVEr insult another DISer. I did of course mean that I was asking stupid question - not that the question itself was stupid.

My humblest apologies.

To clarify, the Navigator's verandah's are open-air. The porthole is open, there's no glass there. They are more enclosed than the standard verandah, but you can still feel the breeze and smell the ocean (or the diesel fumes, if the wind is right).

I personally think the savings is worth the trade-off of reduced sightlines. The nav verandah still supplies a nice quiet place to relax and read or enjoy a drink. It's usually about $200/pp less than the category 6 rooms.

Oh, and I also thought the "stupid" reference was meant to be self-deprecating, not a judgement on your question, for what it's worth...

Geez Sandy, look at all the problems you caused! :chat:

Well I was just going to take up for you and say: Knowing Sandy, HE would never say another DISers question was stupid. He may say HIS own question was stupid. But actually that wasn't stupid either. :boat:

However, the Yankees still stink! princess: :wave2:

..when they said, 'Sometimes things that you write don't translate well into the postings'.

It was obvious to me that Gometros' statement was self-deprecating, but I guess it's all in the way that you read the words.

Glad it's straightened out now. :teeth:

Hey Sandy~
don't worry, I Understood what you were referring to... I was thinking the same as you, " are they the same thing??" but that's because I've already learned the difference between a navigator's verandah and a regular verandah, be it plexiglass or metal.

Wildabouttheworld~ welcome to our cruising world of Dis
... don't be scared off because some people jump quickly around here, most of it is in jest...

check out Dave's site also..http://www.dcltribute.com/ between his site and Barb & Tony's you'll learn a lot... but feel free to ask anything,
