Ohhhhhhhh you DID NOT just say this!!

Disney is NOT first and formost for kids. Disney is for EVERYONE!! Be glad Im not the owner of the DISboards. Because that statement right there would have you banned if it was up to me.

And for you info Disney yes is great for adults. But I have to DISAGREE that without the childern wanting to go back year after year, it couldnt exist. That statement right there - VERY UNTRUE!! I WISH I could go back year after year. Heck, I wish I could go for Flower & Garden festival, MNSSHP and MVMCP EVERY SINGLE YEAR! Thats 3 times a year! Will that ever happen - yes it will. As soon as move to Orlando in the next 13 yrs. Infact once we move to Orlando, we will probably go every weekend just so we have something to do.

Yes, I went to WDW in the 70's when I was 5 years old. I have great memories. I want other children to have the same great time I did. I guess I am sensitive to the heat and waiting and know it is really difficult for small children to endure the heat and long lines. And I know that character meals are the highlight of their time there and many of them are booked solid. So if we left those tables to families with small children, more children could experience them.

WDW is great for adults, but without the children wanting to go back year after year, it couldn't exist. It really is first and foremost for children.

:lmao: I already am getting white hair, seriously! And Im only 25 with no kids. Where does the white hair come from? The military, DH's job. If I had the same attitude towards Disney as the OP my whole head would be white. :lmao:

Honestly I feel the OP does not have a very open mind from the posts that are so worrisome over what other people are doing. :confused3 Worry about yourself and stop judging other people, I say.

It actually could be considered fact that Disneyland / world was not created to be geared towards children. The proof? A myriad of quotes by Walt Disney himself, repeatedly saying things along the lines that adults are children.

There are PLENTY of things for small children to do at Walt Disney World. There are plenty of ways to do these things while avoiding lines.

I agree the OP is here to stir the pot a bit... why else would one lash at childless adults who just want to relax on a board full of WDW-goers?

You'll go gray quickly with attitudes like that
.

I read 12 pages of this thread, and to the OP mefordis, I do understand where you're coming from, in a way. But I also don't understand why you think a few adults standing in line will not "give little kids a chance" to ride. Look at it from a logical perspective. Everyone gets a chance to ride if they're in line. In fact, the vast majority of people in line for Dumbo are small children with their moms and dads. Its not adults-only riders that are making the line so long, its other small children. Yes, it is a very popular ride with the kids, so popular, in fact, they all want to ride it! When you get that many small children wanting to ride, the line gets long. Thats kind of how lines form. There's really no way the line for Dumbo will ever get shorter unless they create a fastpass system for it. There is no way that eliminating the few adult-only riders will make the line so drastically shorter for all the little kids.

And if you don't want your children standing in 100 degree heat for an hour, don't go to Florida. That or get some magical powers that will make the temperature at Disney World drop to 60* just for the little kids. Come on. Its a fact of life. Its hot in Florida, especially in the spring/summer. People need to expect to wait in long hot lines when they go to WDW during peak season/hot season.

You should ride it! And if people stare at you, just say what are you looking at? Chances are those parents are just as excited to ride Dumbo as their child. These days seems like the adults have more fun or just as much fun in Disney then the kids do.

This is exactly why I never have ridden on this ride.. too afraid of the glares I would get from parents with kiddies waiting. Someday though I hope to ride at least once.

I find it sad that the OP stated her opinion and the response was 26 pages of people twisting her words, accusing her of being selfish, and making rude comments to her and about her and her children (either outright or passive/aggressive).

Isn't this supposed to be a forum where people can freely talk about all things Disney? Apparently not.

If you disagree with her, state it politely and move on.

The dead horse has been beaten, kicked, and beaten some more.

If the mods have any mercy they'll close the thread.

Have a great day, everyone.

I've been searching for the last two hours and finally found it: a picture of my DH riding Dumbo last year (and look...about two Dumbos behind him are an elder couple (well, older than my DH who is no spring chicken) riding Dumbo. I will not deny him his "inner child"--ever.

The DISboards is there to talk about Disney. But to start a topic where she automatically knew she was gonna get negative responses? She has the right to her opinion, but to post about it on the boards when she knew everyone was gonna disagree? Sounds to me she either wanted attention or just wanted to :stir: I would NEVER start a thread where I knew all I was gonna get is negative responses. What would the purpose be?

No one twisted her words. She was quite clear in her intent. She's free to speak her mind, and she knew going into it that hers would not be the popular opinion. We're free to disagree. I've not seen many be extremely rude. I somehow think the OP can handle the comments just fine. Afterall, she invited them.

My 17 year old cousin is Autistic. He is extremely low functioning and has the mental boundaries of a 6-7 year old. He is very tall, over 6 ft and looks like a foot ball player. You cannot tell by just looking at him there is anything wrong.

I am a local pass holder and he lives in Tampa and since he was 4 we have been taking him to the Magic Kingdom for his b-day.

Last year we got blasted by a woman when we used his medical pass to go to the front of Dumbo. She ranted about how it was a 90 min wait and her kids were waiting in line and that a bunch of adults should be ashamed of themselves skipping a bunch of kids. I tried to ignore her but I decided to let her know that my cousin was a kid stuck in an adult body. She just looked and me and said whatever. I told her that she was blessed to have kids that would grow up and enjoy normal mild stones like getting a license on their 16th birthdays but he is celebrating his 16th at his favorite place. I was so upset by her hatefulness I almost left but my cousin would have gone bazerk. He did get excited and talked to me in his crazy language, and I think that lady felt like a moron after she realized he was special needs.

We are very careful to not abuse the pass we get when we take my cousin. We normally use fast passes as much as possible but on rides like Dumbo that is not an option. We also only use it for him and one or 2 other people, we don't take 10 people up to the front of the line.

I understand what the OP is getting at. But you have to be careful when you say it should only be for kids. Technically my cousin is almost an adult but he is a child metally.

You never know why an adult is on a "childs" ride with out a child. I met a couple on Pooh one year that had buttons on that had their daughters picture and her birth and death dates. We found out she had died a few years earlier and they had just made a trip to WDW before her death. They decide that they would make a trip to Disney every year on her birthday to relive the memories they had of that trip. I would hate for someone to get nasty with them because their child had to wait 30 seconds longer.

Honestly, if you made Dumbo a kids only ride you would still have the same wait times. Seriously, there is not a over abundance of only adults riding it. KWIM?

It is great that your cousin loves WDW!! I do want to mention a couple of things. It is a GAC (Guest Assistance Card), not a medical pass. It is to help the CM's know what assistance and/or accomodations the GAC holder might need. It is NOT a front of the line pass. For people with Autism it might have them wait in an area that is not as stressful for them. They might or might not get on the ride faster. Also, the GAC allows the holder and I think up to 5 members in their party to stay together.

I just didn't want anyone thinking a GAC will get you special treatment. It does not. Anyone with a disability that might need special assistance and would like information on the GAC go to the disABILITIES board. They have excellent information on it.

I'm 32 with no kids. I'll be going to Disney with friends who have kids. I have no idea whether I'll ride Dumbo or not, but I firmly believe that I (or any adult) has the right to. The OP has the right to her opinion, but I don't believe it makes me selfish to want to enjoy Everything the parks have to offer. I would never a push a kid out of the way. However, I don't see how politely waiting in line for my turn or calling 180 days for ADR's at a character meal is selfish. I've put a lot of time, effort, research and money into making my August trip a dream vacation. Why is my dream less important just becauseI don't have kids?

There has been no twisting of her words. Everything thing she had to say was QUOTED in the responses people gave her. I do disagree with her. I stated it politely.

I'd like to point out that in those 26 pages of posts I've made quite a few of them. I don't believe anything I'd said was twisted, I don't believe I accused HER of being selfish nor did I make rude comments about her or her children. I believe if you read the things I had to say you would understand I was pointing out where the OP was in fact saying these types of things about everyone who didn't agree with her opinion.

Everything I pointed out was with QUOTES of exactly what the OP said in context. There is nothing twisted about it. I don't believe your blanket statement about "26 pages of people twisting her words, accusing her of being selfish, and making rude comments to her and about her and her children (either outright or passive/aggressive)." is correct.

The posts made by the OP THROUGHOUT this thread in context will show you why people are upset.

To quote you "Isn't this supposed to be a forum where people can freely talk about all things Disney?" By asking to have this thread closed it would seem you too are in contrast of your own statement.

I think hypersensitive people need to stop reading internet forums. They always act surprised when things get heated. :rotfl2:

You're absolutely right. I should have written,

Isn't this supposed to be a forum where people can freely talk about all things Disney....without being attacked for having a different opinion?

Micmacmissy, I realize the OP didn't use a 72 point font, but her words are NOT being twisted.

And now I'm being judged as hypersensitive because I'm trying to stick up for her. Thank you, Mermaid_Ariel, for illustrating my point.

BOW to them, or you will be attacked!

(sarcasm intended, as it doesn't always get read into a message board, either)
