We are doing a Disney/Universal trip in August (hopefully... my mom is sick, so things may change). Anyway, my son is 18 now and only has a few items he wants to do at Disney (I'm doing an adult trip later this year so will do what I want then). Anyway, doing two days at Disney and four days at Universal (well, one day we are kind of "resting" from parks -- I'm getting a massage while he swims; then we are going to CityWalk and doing an escape room there and enjoying Helios). Two days we are spending at Epic (with a non-private tour of Epic and express pass the next day). Then, two days at Universal and IOA. But, we're staying at Portofino Bay for express pass during those days. I like to do Unviersal last as you do not have to plan as much as you do at Disney so it is much more relaxing.
We are also going in January and just doing five days at Universal (two again at Epic and three at other parks).
Honestly, if this is your first time (and depends on who is going with -- my son loves Universal more than Disney; I am the opposite)... I would say stay at one of the resorts that has express pass for two older parks. Spend two days exploring those... and get park-to-park tickets. I would say one or two days at Epic with at least one day with express if you can swing it. But, I am basing that on MY tastes...
I get an ear patch for motion sickness. Helps on almost all rides (and I cannot do Guardians even with a patch... but, almost all rides at Universal I can).
Good luck!
