Vent: Pajama Day at School

My kids' middle school banned pj day...seemed the kids were making it an "every Friday" event. My DD once wore outdoor-type flannel pants (when they were the style) to school, and I got a phone call saying to bring her another pair. I thought that was a little excessive, but in the interest of maintaining order, I did it.

I think as long as the clothes cover the body, expose no body parts that shouldn't be exposed, do not pose a distraction or a danger by printing or design...what is the big deal????

I guess I don't see what is so horribly inappropraite about an oversized t-shirt? Really snug sweats, ok but correctly fitting ones? :confused3

It isn't like she is wearing some babydoll nightie from VS.

While I think pj day is kinda dumb and unnecessary, I wouldn't say there is anything inappropriate about it.

ETA: I see now that your DD didn't want to wear the oversized shirt however, I still don't have real issue about her wearing an old shirt. Who cares if it was old unless it was terribly ill fitting, I'm talking several sizes too small. Why not buy some pj lounge pants and normal t-shirt for days like this? Pick your battles.

Why are we even asking this question?....why do schools even have a PJ day?

My parents, me, my wife, my kids, we never had no stinkin' PJ day and we turned out OK (no comments required)....

PJ day sounds like something that the creepy old gym teacher everyone wondered about dreamed up.

I'm 45 and we had pj day in school. I never thought it was weird. We loved it.

I have no problem with it. At my local hs is is common for the kids to wear pajama bottoms year round. My 16yo sis wore them to school yesterday.

Whenever we had a PJ day, I never wore actual PJ's from home. My friends and I always went out and bought fun/silly PJ's to wear to school.

We had them during spirit week when I was in high school in the 70's. During tourney time we would have a different day that you would dress up for and PJ day was usually one of them.

You would have inside out day where you would wear you clothes inside out, spirit day where you would wear red and white our school colors, backwards day where you would wear your clothes backwards, hat day....those are just the ones I can remember 30 years later. It was just something fun to do and people who wore the best would be "honored" at a pep session.

I went to a small high school so maybe thats why we did it, it was something I thought all schools did. It was never a big deal, you could do it if you wanted to, but nobody made you do it. It wasn't mandatory.

I have no problem with PJ day at schools at all. DD (and son for that matter) can wear any type of PJ´s they like, for my sake.

OH, that makes sense. Make her wear a tank top underneath.

:lmao: Yea right....she won't wear tank tops. Hence the whole problem I have with PJ's in the first place.

Oh how about a shirt underneath....well that is too hot. Also why would you wear 2 shirts. She just skips PJ day and wear reg. clothes now.

Doesnt bother me, I just always bought the kids a new set for pajama day.

We had pj day in high school, and that was it. The only time I ever saw such a day. I saw nothing wrong with it. Not on a high school level. I mean, the girls already wore next to nothing, even with school uniforms implemented. So, how did it hurt anyone if she wore pajama shorts and a tanktop?

Elementary schools do pj day, now (but of course), but they mostly wear long pants and short sleeves. *shrug*

I actually don't mind PJ day at all.

Now twin day is a whole different story.
Don't they realize the trauma it can cause when a bunch of catty 2nd graders start pairing up? Yowza!

My high school did that too. I remember having hat & tie day, 70's day (hey, this was in the late 90's), dressy day (basically wear something dressy that you wouldnt normally wear to school), and color day (wear the color of your team). I know there were a few others in there but I can't remember what they were. Those days were fun. It was fun to see what some people found to wear.

We never had PJ day but probably because students wore their PJ's to school anyway. One of my friends used to wear her PJ pants to school at least twice a week because she would wake up late. I see nothing wrong with it, as long as you are still within the dress code.

My mom would never allow me to wear my PJ's to school. I'm sure she would have let me wear sweats and a tee shirt though.

I think it's fun! They do this at my DS's school too.

Our school has PJ day, crazy hair day, crazy hat day, and another day when they wear red/black/white to support our NHL team. The kids enjoy it, and it isn't causing any harm. Sometimes my kids participate, sometimes they don't. No big deal.
