Vent: Pajama Day at School

Yep...the blame is totally being placed on the wrong thing....this should be a post about a 10 year old having a fit, not bashing a fun school event.

I totally agree w/you Michelle!

We had Wacky Tacky Day/80's day, now that was interesting. We had storybook character days. We didn't get pajama day till senior year for me. You want to talk about interesting, come to a college campus any time of year, especially when weather is really nice and you would be suprised some of the skirts,we wll lack there of that girls wear. Oh did I mention I've seen a guy wear a kilt on campus?

PJ Day is meant to be fun and I'm sorry but my momma would have said enough and told me to change and get my butt in the car or else.

and the mother is now having a fit just like the 10 year did this morning.

WTH is going on with this thread?

I and the OP can say we think PJ day is STUPID all day long. Doesn't mean we are going to say anything to the school. I am glad your kids LOVE IT and you love it, my dd does not "love it".

My dd does not like to "dress up" period. Frankly dislikes ALL the "fun days".

Some kids do not like that kind of stuff.

What is wrong with you guys? :confused3

DD7 hates pjs, but she absolutely LOVES pj day! If she didn't, I would send her in regular clothes.

I think the issue is that the OP is attempting to blame her daughter's behavior on Pajama Day:confused3

Well...you know, I had to let it all go with my dd.

When the flyers come home for PJ day, hat day, crazy sock day, we ignore it now.

Think of us parents with kids that will not participate and will feel left out. My dd won't wear pj's, hats, crazy socks, etc...Frankly she finally started wearing blue jeans this year...thank GOD!

Let me tell you, it takes a bit for a kid to develop some backbone to be who they are. Alot of meltdowns can occur to get there.

But that is the way it is, my dd accepts it now. She is on student council and makes suggestions on deaf ears.

HUGS to you OP...I understand where you are coming from.

I am a little surprised as well at some of the hostility here. No, there isn't anything "wrong" with Pajama Day. Some people just happen to think it is a waste of time.

As I mentioned before, our school has several such "theme" days, and none of the children get particularly excited about it. They wear uniforms every day, so they participate in order to get out of wearing the uniform, but they'd be just as happy, if not more so, to get a regular old free dress day.

And I'd be happier too, because then I wouldn't have to go out and buy an outfit to match the theme.

In the case of the OP, I do think the child's behavior is more at fault here than the existence of Pajama Day. But I think every parent has had that moment of "why did this thing that I know will cause trouble have to come along and cause trouble!".

Anyway, it's not as if anyone's Pajama Day is now at risk because of this thread, so I think we could all take a deep breath and relax.

You ask what's wrong w/us ... I think the big problem is that the OP is laying blame on PJ day for her kid's tantrum. It's not PJ Day's fault.

We *could* ask what's wrong w/your kids for not liking that kind of stuff ... but we're not going to! (At least I'm not going to!)

lets just ban EVERYTHING because someone might feel left out....that is just ridiculous.....

As some have pointed out, there's a LOT of pointless hostility in this thread. We've heard lots of different viewpoints and opinions, and I think it's best to end this conversation now.
