Vent Incoming.....work related.

If you are a licensed teacher, then you are a teacher. The op works before/after school care. She does childcare, not school, if I'm not mistaken.

Yet DisneyJunkie works in a DAYCARE CENTER as a kindergarten teacher! The problem Kathie is that you ASSUME everyone in a childcare center/daycare does NOT have full credentials when you are SORELY mistaken as many of us DO.:)

I never said anything about your credentials, never asked, I simply said that there are differences in licensing and requirements between what constitutes a school and one that provides childcare. If I'm wrong, please let me know, this is what I was told in researching preschools, childcare in previous years. You could have a masters for all I know, however, it still would not make you a licensed teacher, would it?

My example would be that in preschool a few years ago, I specifically sent my daughter to a preschool, not daycare. The daycares here were just that, childcare for working parents with "childcare providers" working there. The actual preschool was for 3 or 4 hours taught by licensed teachers. They were still about the same price but I liked the preschool program better as it was school only, not open 12 hours a day to all ages.

Why do you care so much? It seems you're splitting hairs. My older dd's daycare teacher (3 yr olds) had a 4 yr BA degree in early education. Both dd and I adored and respected her abilities and credentials. You seem determined to dog people who do daycare. I just have to ask why? Why would you demean someone who spends hours with your child each day?

My child is in elementary school during the day, she goes to afterschool care 3 days a week from 3:30-4:45, so 3 hours and 45 minutes a week is hardly hours each day. I like my afterschool care providers, and that is what they are, not teachers. I absolutely am not dogging people who do daycare at all, just don't understand her dogging parents because they call her a babysitter.

You know what, now that I think about it, dd's 1-3 in home daycare giver was terrific too. I don't think she had a 4 yr degree, so I'll take that off the table. Kathie A, did you have some kind of horrific daycare experience or what? In watching other parents, it does seem that daycare can be a mostly thankless job. Parents witch about having to pay for days off, like Christmas and New Years. Honestly, some people don't seem to get that daycare givers are likely the folks that spend nearly as much time with their children as they do. Why would anyone dis someone who spent time with their children? If you don't respect them, you need to find someone you respect. Otherwise you're dis-respecting the needs of your own child.

Whether I was a licensed teacher would depend on the type of masters I have. And you do not need a Masters to be a licensed teacher BTW:thumbsup2 A Bachelors with teaching credentials and state exams qualifies you.

The problem is your ASSUMING that all childcare workers don't have these degrees/and or credentials. Many of us HAVE them and CHOSE to work in Child care facilities instead of schools.

Two people [A & B] may be equally qualified as teachers and choose different field of child care/education to work in. "A" becomes a 3rd grade teacher and "B" chooses to work in a child care center. It does not make "A" any more qualified than "B" yet without openly broadcasting the fact that "B" has said credentials she has now been labeled a babysitter/child care provider and not teacher. KWIM?:thumbsup2

maybe because she is not a babysitter.

Okay, AGAIN, I never assumed anything about anyone's credentials, did I? In fact, I specifically stated that there are in fact college educated adults in my childs afterschool care, as far as I know they are not licensed teachers, which is fine with me. I never had a bad experience with any type of childcare, school or babysitter, thanks:thumbsup2 And I know you dont have to have masters to be a licensed teacher, did I ever say that? No.

But, if person B takes a position in a CHILDCARE facility as a CHILDCARE provider, then is he/she not a CHILDCARE provider as opoosed to a teacher?

No you just assume that child care providers are LESS qualified and label them as babysitters. In many ways thats even worse. :lmao:

If a person has their teacher credentials they are still a teacher whether or not they work in what you deem a ""classroom/school.":thumbsup2

A Doctor who does not practice medicine still reserves the right to identify themselves as DR. _____

I was responding to FayeW, not the OP.

It various from place to place.

My center accepts children between the ages of 2 ½ and 5. Some of our parents work, some are in school and a few are SAHMs.

The teachers in our center are licensed to teach birth - 6th grade.

The main difference between our preschool program and a public school program is funding. Public schools have larger operating budgets than we do.

Other differences - we belong to a different union. I have to work tomorrow and yes, I had to work Christmas Eve. :sad2:

Nope, no bad experiences here, we've never really gone the daycare route, thanks, just a few hours a week in an afterschool program, this year.:cloud9:

So...if your a licensed teacher but you take the position of lets say janitor, then are you a janitor or a teacher?

No you just assume that child care providers are LESS qualified and label them as babysitters. In many ways thats even worse. :lmao:

Not sure why you are so sure of what I am assuming if anything? Must be those childcare credentials you got?

You can be qualified as a teacher and take a position as a janitor. They are however two very different fields have two very different titles yet you can be both at the same time.

In the child care/education fields however you will find qualified teachers in both classrooms in schools and after school care programs.
