Vegetarians?

I'm trying to talk my brother and SIL into going to WDW with my DH and I in November. They are both vegetarians...meaning they do not eat fish either...so I am wondering if there are any vegetarians out there who could suggest some disney restaurants?

My sister is vegtarian and loves WDW! I've also been with several folks who were on other kinds of restricted diets. WDW is really about as great as you can get in terms of just about every place having some option on the menu. In the real world, many places she has to be happy with an extra serving of the veggie-of-the-day and a side of rice or fries...or maybe grilled cheese or maybe a side salad. Not WDW!

One thing you should do - let Disney know when you make your dining reservations, or call about two weeks in advance with all your ADR's. At each place the person who seats you should mention it when they seat you. If thye don't, let the server know right away and don't be afraid to ask questions. They will tell you about that special place and what they do or can do. Even if you don't do this step, there is usually a veggie option on just about every menu. The only exception may be some of the quick serve places, or the Epcot Food &Wine Festival.

One ofthe best places to dine is Boma. I haven't been to Sanaa with my sister yet, but I'm also thinking that had some good options.

Ironically, she also enjoys 'Ohana. It's a total meat fest, BUT - they give you salad, lo mein, fresh stemmed veggies with dinner, banana's foster for dessert (so long as they eat dairy). I think if you tell them ahead they will do more too.

The high end places also have some good options. they change thier menus every few months, so it's hard to say what will be offered when you are there. I recall we enjoyed the Flying Fish. Cali GRill also has sushi and flatbreads.

Most buffets have a number of good options. Breakfast - esp. if they eat eggs - is also a good option. Ifthe chef knows they are vegetarian - one will usually come out and go down the lline with them and show them all the toptions that are vegetarian. Again I say, Boma has alwasy been excellent withthis and they have lots of healthy foods to choose: soups, fresh veggies, fresh fruits, desserts, cous cous, pasta, sweet potato, ...

The only ones I would not say are good are Chef Mickey's, the Columbia Harbor House, and the 50's Prime Time Cafe. The 50's - at last visit - only offered stuffed peppers that she didn't like.

Another good area is the WS: Japan, Morocco (the quick serve is GREAT!), come to mind as especially good options. Oh, and the food court in the Land has a number of healthy options (sandwiches, interesting salads, soups, stir fry, etc.)

Most of the places that sell burgers offer a veggie burger. Many also offer salads. Some places can modify some dishes by simply skipping the meat and adding extra veggies - Kona CAfe comes to mind. They have a noodle veggie stir fry my sister enjoyed. (Pan Asian Noodles. - though looking just now -it was the only veggie option onthe menu I saw, except a salad.)

MK has a noodle place that is only open seasonally. It had some veggie options, if it is open. (between Main St and Tomomorrowland...turn right at the ice cream place on Mainstreet and go past the Plaza restaurant) Otherwise we often end up at Cosmic Ray's getting a veggie burger.(just beyond there the noodle place is located)

WDW pizza isn't the best I've ever had, but it has improved over time. Any place that has pizza will usually have a veggie variety- often a veggie pizza/salad combo. Most resort food courts have a pizza/pasta station. (In HS, we often opt for Pizza Planet) The QS places at CR and GF both have a number of veggie options! Poly has a sushi bar that is walk -up - though the selection is a bit limited.

Speaking of food courts...CSR's Pepper Market had a number of options.
They also have a fruit salad station. So that is one of the few places that offers all kinds of fruit, including the now rare strawberries.

In each park is also ONE spot that sells fresh fruit at a stand. AK's is in Africa near the safari ride. MK's is betweenthe HoP and the Haunted Mansion. HS's I think is inthe open air food court kind of near ToT. I can't recall where the Epcot one is located....but if you look inthe prepped food case in the Land's food court, they usually have several freshly packaged fruits.
Also, it does matter if they are vegan. If they are vegan, then you most certainly should call ahead!

Also, don't rule out the Swan and Dolphin. They were also very nice to us. There is a Japanese sushi place there as well.

I can't speak to a very few places - like CApe May.

If all else fails.....your firends can try havinga look at the kids' menu in many places. Often they will let vegtarians have the kids' options. Many places serve Mac and cheese (though it's not great). Many also have pasta with plain tomato sauce or cheese pizza. (almost all kid's meals come witha veggie, too!) Another kid's option is sometimes veggies with dips. Oh, and there a re few places where you can buy Uncrustables PBJ. The Main St Bakery (MK) comes to mind.

Are they Vegan? no animal products at all--no dairy, eggs ect.
I know that special meals can be requested. There are also reviews of
Vegans eatting at WDW. It's easy to be a Vegetarian who eats dairy and eggs
but a bit harder to be a vegan or I should say there are more choices for
vegetarian than vegans. Have a fun trip!

WDW is wonderful place for vegetarians in my opinion. I have had so many wonderful meals and I sometimes (okay, every time) dread coming back home! :lmao:

There are plenty of CS places that serve veggie burgers. My favorite CS in the MK is Cosmic Ray's. They serve tasty veggie burgers with a toppings bar that I just love! They also have a veggie wrap that I am looking forward to possibly trying this upcoming trip! Columbia Harbour House also has a veggie sandwich that has hummus.

Epcot has several options for CS as well. Sunshine Seasons is my favorite CS at Epcot for vegetarian variety. They offer vegetarian sandwiches, vegetarian asian offerings and salads. Liberty Inn also offers veggie burgers and they are supposed to offer a veggie wrap, but I personally haven't tried it.

As far as the AK goes up until Tusker House became a buffet that was my go to lunch restaurant for CS. I have also been to Restaurantosaurus for a veggie burger. I do know that Flame Tree BBQ has a fruit plate that sounds really tasty, but I personally have not been there. The seating area for FTB is outdoors and I've heard that the birds can be aggressive. I'm terrified of birds, so I have yet to try the food there.

I can't offer you any suggestions for your brother or sister-in-law for HS. I'm sure someone else can fill you in here.

Every TS offers at least one vegetarian entree. And I have never had any troubles finding food at buffets. I'll go ahead and mention some of my favorite TS for you.

AKL - Boma
Tasty, tasty buffet with more than enough for me to eat! I love this place and consider it a must-do.

GF - 1900 Park Fare
I love the buffet here, it's one of my favorites. The strawberry soup is heavenly! My husband likes to joke that I will have three bowls of strawberry soup and for dessert I'd have more strawberry soup. :rotfl2:

Poly - 'Ohana
While it is a meat lovers paradise, I've had great vegetarian offerings here. I have read amazing reviews with Chef TJ is working, but I have yet to try any of his food. But I'm always more than satisfied with what I get. Plus they have an amazing dessert..

MK - Liberty Tree Tavern
This is my family's favorite TS meal at the MK. They have wonderful vegetarian offerings in my opinion. And if we happen to go for dinner, I could make a meal just on the mashed potatoes, rolls and salad alone. :thumbsup2

Epcot - Marrakesh
They have a wonderful veggie couscous. Lots of vegetables and very filling. Only reason we aren't going this trip is because I'm pregnant and certain smells are setting off my stomach. :sad2: I'm going to miss the couscous.

Epcot - Biergarten
Yep, it's a German buffet, but boy oh boy are the sides tasty! Plus I love the entertainment! I have never left this place hungry!

I hope this helps! There are quite a few vegetarians and vegans out there! Check out the reviews section for more help! :thumbsup2

Italian places are good options since most pasta/pizza dishes can be made vegetarian. Mama Melrose. Tutto Italia, or Tony's?

Almost everyplace you go will have at least one veggie option. If you think you may not like what is offered, or would like another option considering there will be two of them, call the Disney Dietary line (I forget the number offhand, but I'm sure it's online somewhere). Chefs should be accommodating and able to prepare something with ingredients they have on hand.

Favorite CS:

Columbia Harbor House in MK - offers a delicious "Lighthouse Sandwich" w/ tomato, broccoli slaw, and hummus. Also, a veggie chili.
Cantina @ Mexico in Epcot - Not many veggie options on the menu, but they will make burritos, tacos, etc. with no meat - big portions and REALLY good.
Restaurantosaurus in AK and Cosmic Rays in MK - Both have veggie burgers w/ a toppings bar, which is nice. Cosmic Rays also has other veggie options, but I've never tried them.

Favorite TS:

Boma at AK Lodge - buffet with tons of veggie options. Great for breakfast or dinner.
Ohana at the Poly - food served family style. Regular menu focused mostly on meat, but they'll make delicious alternatives for vegetarians.

Akershus at Norway in Epcot - Excellent grilled veggie filled pasta at lunch, in addition to a cold bar and yummy dessert. Also - princesses!!
Chefs de France in Epcot - Great veggie lasagna - ingredients seem really fresh. Also, an adult version mac and cheese that I have yet to try.
Tusker House in AK - another great buffet with tons of options.

I'm not sure how many sit down meals you are looking for. Crystal Palace in MK and 50s Prime Time in HS were probably the best options in those parks, and really good as well. Enjoy!!

Any special meal can be requested.
As I think, there are also reviews of Vegans eating at WDW..........

It's easy to be a Vegetarian who eats dairy and eggs
but a bit harder to be a vegan or I should say there are more choices for
vegetarian than vegans.

Have a sweet as honey trip................

I am a vegetarian. I  Boma! Lots of great non meat options.

I tend to go for buffets---there are lots of choices @ the WDW buffets and I never leave hungry! :)

This trip we are trying Tusker House...which I am told has a lot of vegetarian options.

Most WDW restaurants, I have found, have at least one vegetarian option. And I am sure if there is not something on the menu, you could ask!

Enjoy!

As a Vegetarian I can attest that Disney is awesome for food. I live in the midwest, it can be hard sometimes to eat, you need to be creative. I love visiting Disney, they cater to everyone! Oddly enough Biergarten is one of my favorites, Dh loves all the sausages and I love the salads.

Many cs have veggie burgers on the menu as does Sci Fi, there is my fav the lighthouse sandwich at Columbia harbor house. They can easily check out the menus here: http://allears.net/din/dining.htm
