Vegetarians--Do you do the dining plan? This is our first trip and we did get it, but just wondering for the future. I am a veg., but no one else in the family is. My meal is always the cheapest on the menu, wondering what's more cost effective.

We don't. Normally (before our food allergies, that is) we would split an appetizer and an entree for our meal and didn't want dessert every night. For us, it was too much food, and too $$ for what you got. Instead, we pre-purchase gift cards in the estimated amount we're going to spend on food and pay with those.

We do it and everyone is vegetarian except dh. It is worth it and as long as you fill out the allergy request form it works great. We never had a problem. except at ohanas that was the worst resturant expierence we have ever had any where. We love Boma and 1900 fare.

Veggie food always seems to be an issue when we travel. We went to Disneyland last year and I struggled to find food for the boys and myself.

If this is your first trip and plan on eating at a number of buffets/character meals *and since you are the only vegetarian in your party, I would say go for it! DH, DS and I will be traveling to WDW in Oct and we have FD because it is the only discount offered. I would never pay for it again. I would much prefer a RO discount, but something is better than nothing, I suppose! I do like the "all inclusive" aspect of using the DP too. Have an incredible vacation!

Also! Don't forget to check out the Vegetarian/Vegan thread!

No, we don't. Trust me, I'm a big-eater, I can knock out a 12-inch Subway sub in about 8 minutes tops and I'm size 3...but the dining plan is way too much food unless you plan on buffets or signatures everyday. :thumbsup2

Yes, it's our first trip. We have food allergies also. We have a few character meals (Chef Mickeys, CRT and Akershus planned too and another signature (CG).

Happy summer-do you mind me asking what happened at Ohanas? We do not have reservations there. I was worried about not only the veg options, but we have a peanut allergic dd and I know they serve peanut sauce there, so I was a little leery. Having said that, it gets such great reviews, I was curious about it. Would love to hear a veg. review.

I been to WDW using the DDP and not using the DDP. I prefer using the DDP.

Some people really sit down and do out the math...but I generally I think it makes sense to do the DDP if you're interested in doing a number of buffets/character meals. I also really like the convenience of it and that it's paid for in advance.

I've been to Ohana twice and really enjoyed my meals there. Both times we had to wait a bit after our scheduled ADR times, but I have absolutely no complaints about the food whatsoever. I imagine that the kitchen would be able to accommodate your daughter's allergy (Chef TJ used to work there and his specialty was working with allergies/dietary restrictions), if you were interested in trying it out.

I'm not a vegetarian but we travel with a family of vegans (they do eat a bit of dairy on vacations b/c it gets so complicated). They did the ddp when it was free but it really didn't work well for them. There is always one veg entree on the TS menu but if they don't like that and just want a salad it's a big money loser. For QS they again felt more limited in having to get an entree when in some cases a few side items would have worked better for them. If only 1 person is a veg and the rest of the family would be ordering expensive meals and you have kid aged kids the ddp may work out well but if you have a veg and a 11 year old who wants to eat some kids meals, etc it usually doesn't work as well. Our veg friends and us are not soda drinkers so if you are just ordering tap water with meals it takes away a lot of ddp value plus if you don't want dessert twice a day, etc etc.
