Vegetarian Options in the DLR

My friend and I are going in November and it will have been a year since we were at the parks. Since then, SW:GE has opened, Tropical Hideaway has opened, and a couple of other options at DTD have opened. I'm wondering if there is a place worth going to for my birthday dinner that has more than one entree option for my friend. I'm a carnivore so I will be able to find anything wherever we go, but it's always a pain to give him something else to choose from other than some weird giant mushroom or eggplant dish. I'm willing to go anywhere in DL/DCA/DTD or any of the hotels. I've done Blue Bayou a few times and Carthay Circle, but I haven't done any of the other restaurants for birthday dinner.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I love vegetarian fare even though I'm not a vegetarian myself. Napa Rose was my favourite for a great vegetarian meal however a slight problem is that the menu is seasonal so I can't say whether or not the current listing is valid (though it might be).

Another great thing is to follow "vegetariandisney" on Instagram. A lot of the options are featured there which is a great resource.

Two suggestions for Napa Rose. I will definitely check it out! Just want to make sure that it's not all about me and my friend can feel like he has some options, too. I'll take a look at the 'vegetariandisney' Instagram as well. Thanks for the responses so far!

I'm a longtime vegetarian (25 years in three weeks) and am a fan of the veggie tacos at Rancho Del Zocalo. My brother is a carnivore and he thinks the non-veggie meat dishes are pretty good as well. I rarely eat at DL, though. Nearly always, I bring my own lunch. I don't eat sugar either so it's just easier to bring my own stuff. Cheaper too, since I go nearly every Sunday :-).

I understand totally. I get down to Disneyland once a year so it's a special thing for me and I want to do a special birthday dinner. Otherwise, I love Rancho and I love their veggie options. I'm not strictly a meat eater, though. We grew up with mostly vegetarian options until I was about 6 or 7 and started incorporating more meats into our diets. I'm good with anything, really, be it it meat, fish, eggs, veggies, carbs like rice and potatoes...you name it. I'll eat it if it's good! Just don't want to do something I've already done for a special dinner this time around and I want my friend to be able to enjoy himself, too.

I understand. I've also been to Blue Bayou a few times and they have decent veggie options too. As I recall, the chef came out and conferred with me about my restrictions. In my experience, Disney chefs seems to enjoy making something special for their guests. Several years ago we were at Storytellers and asked for something vegan and sugar-free. The chef came out, talked with us and made us both something fantastic.

That's awesome! I'm excited to head back down there for my birthday and have a fun time with a new dining experience.

I suspect you're aware that BB usually requires a reservation. Certainly you should make one, just to be on the safe side :-).

Yup! We're too far out to make reservations, but I don't think I want to do Blue Bayou this time. I was just curious about other options and wanted to gather as much info as possible before it was time to make those reservations, but I'm definitely going to jump on it when the time comes.

Cool. I think most of the counter-service/non-reservation places are good about making accommodations. As I mentioned above, at Storytellers the chef was especially good about making us happy. Reservations weren't (and I presume still aren't) required there. And since this is DL and they get thousands of visitors from all over every day, they're almost accustomed to specialized meals and restrictions.

Carthay Circle may be a good option too. They have an off menu vegan burger at lunch, and for dinner usually have a pasta dish that is vegetarian. I've heard reports of a custom veggie tower or pasta being made as well.

Blue Bayou's vegetarian pasta is really good too. I agree with your friend, I wasn't a fan of their big stuffed mushroom they previously had. They were always willing to make me a veggie pasta even back then though. Super accommodating staff and chef.

For quick service I second Rancho Del Zocalo. If they are still doing the skewer menu at Paradise Garden Grill the tofu one is very good. I didn't enjoy the cauliflower sandwich at Red Rose Tavern, but I'm going to give it another shot when we visit in October. The slab of cauliflower they gave me was undercooked and cold. I should have asked for another but the line was long and we had a FP to make. I hear good things though, so hopefully my experience was a fluke.

What kind of veggie burger was at Carthay? I’ve wanted to go there but nothing appeals to me.

While this isn't a special celebration type option, I wanted to mention that Jolly Holiday has been great about making me a special croissant sandwich in the mornings without the bacon. I told them I was a vegetarian and they made me my own special sandwich, and it was delicious! And now I want to try all of these other options...

The veggie loaf at Docking Bay 7 is delicious! I’m a vegetarian and this is one of the most unique and best veggie dishes I’ve had at any Disney park.

I'm really excited to be able to enjoy the new food at SW:GE.

Trader Sams at the Disneyland hotel has a yummy veggie bowl. Wasn't thrilled with the vegetable thing at the tropical hidaway, but rancho del zocalo is good.

I've never actually been to Trader Sams, but I kind of feel like going off-site aka out of the parks proper might give us more of an option for him than 1 thing to choose from.

I am not a vegetarian, and the Felucian garden spread is my new favorite lunch item. At dinner, the garden loaf with mushroom sauce was a tad too salty. I expect that to be a fluke, so I would definitely try that again.
