Vegetarian on Disney Fantasy

I will be going on my third disney cruise next year and I am what airlines call a lacto-ovo vegetarian. I have been browsing the fantasy menus because I am thinking of booking a palo dinner and working out which meal would be my first preference to miss. Some of the menus on the disney cruise line blog list foods such as lobster in dishes in the vegetarian menu. Any recent vegetarian cruisers know what is going on here? I eat under the most common definition of vegetarian which is definitely not piscotarian (not even sure how to spell it but the one that eats some fish) and given that disney seems to pride itself on catering to dietary requirements I am a little worried about these menus.

Don't be worried at all. There are veggie options (proper veggie options!) on every menu.

I am also a veggie (I don't eat anything with a face or mother!) and they are always fantastic with me. I have allergies to peppers and onions too so it really is a test for them, but they do it admirably.

Ask to see the menu for the next night and if there is nothing you fancy, they will make you something you do like. I try to make my choices nice and easy such as mushroom pasta, or grilled tofu with something .. don't worry!

I'm veggie, and don't think the veggie choices are all that great. However, the servers never have a problem showing me the following nights menus, and if there is nothing I like they are more than happy to order me something specially made.

My favourites are mushroom risotto and vegetarian lasagne, I ask for them quite a lot!

Where are you seeing that? I can't find that.

I'd skip Enchanted Garden, personally. Bleah.

That said, if you like Indian food you can ask if, after the first night, they can make you some lovely Indian curries instead of going with the regular food. They can't do it the first night, because the crew haven't made enough to share with guests.

At Animators, I love love LOVE the potato celeriac and onion gratin, with the Roasted Red Bell Pepper, Zucchini, and Red Onion salad. DH loved the buttersquash soup.

I don't recall ever seeing a vegetarian dish in the menu that had meat or seafood in it. I'm not vegetarian but I'm allergic to all seafood and I sometime feel like ordering something vegetarian so I think that I would have noticed if there was lobster in one. That said, simply let your serving staff know the first night that you're vegetarian. I've always found them to be very good in alerting me to something that potentially had seafood in it including a dish (can't recall what) that had something pre-packaged in it and they told me because they can't guarantee that pre-packaged food is completely non-seafood or hasn't got seafood contamination in it that I should avoid it.

I'm not as allergic to anchovies as other seafood if it's just in a sauce so I was able to eat a Caesar salad that they told me had anchovies in it. When I ordered it a second night, they came and reminded me that it had anchovies in it and checked that I hadn't had any ill effects from the previous time (I hadn't).

So let them know and ask questions. If they don't know, they'll check for you.

I liked the vegetarian options and loved the veggie burgers up at tow-maters. I had them every day. And I'm not a vegetarian at all!

I just got off the fantasy and loved the veg options. The menus even had a little veg menu on the bottom right side. The only night that was hard was the last night in Animators palate. The menu was very limited that night but remember, with the Disney Navigator App, you can always see the menu for that night when you wake up in the morning.

Thanks for the reassurance. The menus I found on that particular website might also be a little old. I have just had experienced with wait staff in some places (not disney) informing me that the fish option is the vegetarian option and that vegetarians do eat fish (didn't go down well for the two vegetarians at that table and I think at that point the vegan at the table accepted that they might be going hungry).

My son is vegan and has been "worried" about what he'll do on our next cruise, but he has faith he won't be eating just fruit for eleven days.

Just look at the most recent. :). I would still love to see what you were looking at though!

I hate when people who eat fish in public identify publicly (at the same time) as vegetarian. DH has fish once a year. Every other day of the year he's vegetarian. That one day he's pescetarian, though he usually just doesn't say anything about his diet when ordering fish. :)

The disney fantasy enchanted garden menu has lobster in the brioche. I think I may have seen something else suspicious on another menu once but this was the one that initiated the post.

Hopefully that is just a typo. If not, they need a refresher course on vegetarian diets. With it clearly on the menu, vegetarians should catch it before ordering.

On one cruise on the magic (possibly last year's, can't remember) there was one dish they offered as vegetarian that had caviar with it. I remember having to point out to the server that it wasn't vegetarian, as vegetarians don't eat fish, only pescatarians do.

I do double check things like soups, although they may look as if they are vegetarian I always ask the server to check whether they are made with meat stock or if they are actually suitable for vegetarians.

It does frustrate me that a lot of restaurants here in the UK still think that a fish meal is a vegetarian option. Where on earth do those chefs train?

However, I think this is also down to a number of people who say they are "vegetarian but eat fish", or "vegetarian but eat chicken"! No, you're not a vegetarian then, and it just makes life harder for the rest of us who are when people actually say that!

I wouldn't worry. You can modify any entrée or even order an entrée from a different menu. Your server will make sure hat you do not go hungry. The tofu is great, if you eat it. They have marinated Portobello mushrooms. The vegie burger at Tow Mater's is very good.

That's so weird, when I was looking I didn't even see a separate EG menu for fantasy!

It has lobster in a list of mushrooms. Lobster mushrooms are a fungus. It doesn't mean lobster the animal! :D

Mystery solved! And that totally makes sense with how it's written. Reading comprehension award goes to you! Next up: sentence diagramming. :)
