Vegan questions

We just always mark it get to the host aware, I only select milk and eggs when I book because we don't eat those. We don't select it for all restaurants just the ones we know the conversation needs to be started before we are seated. Many restaurants now are pretty good with vegan diets and don't need it, but it is helpful to let them know before because we have encountered many CM's who don't know what vegan actually means. Not saying you have to mark it as an allergy but it has been helpful to us in the past.
Or you could just provide the accurate information: "we're vegan, which means we don't eat any animal products".

It's NOT an allergy!

It certainly CAN be an allergy, and it's not going to harm anyone to mark it as such. I know, allergy-parents are concerned that if everyone marks things as allergies than it will all be taken away from them. WDW isn't interested in killing people. They aren't going to do that. They have only gotten *better* about allergies as time has gone on.

But avoiding meat, avoiding dairy, avoiding honey can certainly be an allergy, and I'm not sure the OP said "this is a lifestyle choice" so we don't know what is up with the OP. DH had to go macrobiotic (but without the fish because fish in the waters around the US are too polluted) for medical reasons for 2 years. It certainly was a medical problem during that time, and if it kept him healthy he would have marked it as an allergy.

They don't *have* that as an option when doing it online. That is why vegans tend to mark things off as allergies. In case anyone actually wondered. They have an extremely "stupid" form with checkboxes, and it doesn't allow for vegan (or vegetarian) to be marked off without calling it an allergy.

I rarely even use that form; as an ovo lacto vegetarian I know I'll find a ton of stuff without much hassle (as long as I ask about those cupcakes, but the cupcakes are pretty awful to my palate anyway so I don't worry about them at all). But if I were vegan, I probably would.

Right, because being a vegan or vegetarian is a choice, not a medical dietary restriction. Why is it necessary to alert all/any restaurants in advance that one eats no meats or meat products? Especially at Disney, do you think they wouldn't be able to feed you? Do you think they go out and buy special products in advance of a vegan entering the restaurant? If having one's dietary choice - not need - catered to is so danged important, pick up the phone and CALL dining reservations. Much more sensible and reasonable than lying on a form that doesn't list one's non-allergy.

WDW allergy process has changed. The chef doesn't always go to the table anymore. There are now allergy menus that guests order from. If you are vegan or vegetarian then tell the greeter at the podium that you are and they will mark your seating card as such. No need to mark it online or during a call, no boxes to check, nothing to do ahead of getting to the restaurant.

This is what I do, actually I just ask my server what options they have for vegans and never have had a problem finding a good meal:thumbsup2
