I think for most people, at least for me, were expecting a lower points chart based on rack rates. Since DLH cash rates are consistently lower than GCH, I thought the point chart would reflect as much. But I was also skeptical based on point charts always trending up with newer resorts, especially after Disney released the cash rates for VDH.This thread is baffling. Why would anyone think the charts were going to go down? Sure, maybe VGC is a better hotel or whatever, but that isn't what Disney cares about. The chart does the heavy lifting for DVC, and charts go one way. Of course VDH was going to be higher, as Poly will also.
Poly might play with some views and categories, but there will plenty that exceed VGF, like the VGF2 Resort Theme Park View and Poly1 did.
The only reason the timeshare math works at all is those economy studios, which we will definitely see in Poly2.
Historically speaking, this not particularly accurate. This thread is baffling. Why would anyone think the charts were going to go down? I think room rates at the time of release dictated points charts - it explains all but CC in your example - I guess they did not expect CC to be as popular as it is and possibly felt selling a more severe point chart than BR would cause competitionHistorically speaking, this not particularly accurate.
- SSR point charts are lower than BCV, BWV and BRV which came earlier
- When introduced, Polynesian charts were lower than Grand Floridian. Though it's not as consistent today following reallocations at PVB.
- Riviera costs are lower than Poly and grand Floridian
- Many were convinced that Copper Creek would be priced higher than the BRV charts introduced more than 15 years previous, yet the charts are largely identical
When being sold, SSR charts where on par with the previous resort and higher than the similarly located OKW. So I'd say it's an increase. A reallocation created the cheaper standard and more expensive preferred.Historically speaking, this not particularly accurate.

Exactly. I wonder when they figured it out? With BWV, or not until BCV or even BLT?with OKW looking like they didn't know what they had, especially GVs).
I think they've had multiple phases of realization. BWV was the "oh, that definitely wasn't a fluke" realization.Exactly. I wonder when they figured it out? With BWV, or not until BCV or even BLT?
uggghh. 3 of my home resorts are top 5 most expensive point charts. I wish I drove to WDW so I can stay at OKW!Points charts peaked with the flagship trio that opened around 2010 (give or take a few years): VGC, AUL, and VGF.
Since then they've not gone above those thresholds. Though, except for CCV, they've probably all been higher than our hopes, VDH likely included.
They've also done things like add Theme Park View at VGF2 and added Bungalows/Cabins that give the perception that they're points-juicing.
Below is average points per night for whole room categories based on 2023 points chart (and POS for VDH). Averages are properly weighted across seasons and view categories:

Looks like it can almost be broken down into 2 eras: pre-BLT and post-BLT, with BLT being a weird middle ground. But within the 2 eras things are mostly flat (with OKW looking like they didn't know what they had, especially GVs).
I wasn't paying attention when VGC opened but I have to imagine that the point chart really shocked a lot of people then. It opened 14 years ago and it's still highest in all of DVC. It's no wonder they had a hard time selling it back then.I think they've had multiple phases of realization. BWV was the "oh, that definitely wasn't a fluke" realization.
I think VGC is when they first thought "we might be able to really push it" and let them be comfortable with this era of point chart.
VGC opened a month after BLT with a points chart ~18% higher than BLT (highest pre-VGC) and ~35% higher than BCV (highest pre-BLT/VGC). Add in the oddity that its actual points chart is noticeably higher than what's listed in POS and I think they were finally really getting it.
I don't know when they can do another 'expectations reset' like they did with VGC/AUL/VGF, those are their flagships still. So we might continue to see minor encroachments upward, like more new premium views or hyper-premium rooms (remember the Houseboats at Reflections? lol).
