VDH Opening

Agree, there isnt much upside to direct, unless you are buying 150 and olan on using sole of the points at 7 months as well.
Otherwise resale seems to make a lot more sense, since most will probably only use VDH points at VDH.

Let's see if DVC 2.0 restrictions are here to stay a la Riviera. Agree that many VDH will be west coast intended for west coast usage. That DOES help DVD reduce the delta between VDH and resale-VDH though as many will have sole intent for VDH usage.

OTOH - many west coasters do use Aulani - so direct sales can make sense for those wanting access to both.

Out of all the info we are waiting on, this is what I want to know. I get that restrictions for VDH aren't the same as they would be for WDW in practice...because many will self impose them...but it could give us insight into whether they are still on the table for Poly tower....

Does anyone think there's ANY chance of resale-only owners being able to book VDH at 7 months? I feel like the chance is about .0000001% but I'd love to be wrong.

There will be a lot more rooms with a lot of studios. It's not going to be easy but not impossible like VGC. Of course, the resort will be restricted most likely so no luck if, say, you're trying to use your VGC resale points to book VDH (but why would you? I guess maybe a change of scene every now and then?)

I say there will be maybe 3 booking categories for views, like main pool, inner pool, and standard, or something of the sort. Then it might be like BWV... you can often get a garden view room at 7 months if not traveling during peak times.

Yeah, I, personally, can't see myself choosing VDH over VGC. I'll just be curious to see if they have that restriction on resale owners being able to book there or not. I'm assuming not, just like Riviera but it hasn't be announced for sure, I don't think.

I don’t think any who purchased resale post January 2019 will be able to book VDH.

I think the more expensive studios will pop up for non-home resort direct & grandfathered resale because of the sheer number of them.

I think the villas will be harder to get than at VGC because there are less of them.

I think there's two parts to this question.

1) Will non-VDH owners be able to book at VDH at 7 months?
  • Yes, very likely. There are a lot of Studios in terms of count and points share. In terms of points share distribution, Poly is the only thing that compares. Poly regularly has studios available at 7 months and the VDH non-studios will likely be more popular than Bungalows and therefore absorb more of the 11-7month booking points, leaving even more inventory at 7 months. But it's also likely it will primarily be the premium view Deluxe Studio categories that will survive to 7 months.
  • None of this may hold up initially as new VDH owners go out of their way to use VDH points at VDH.

2) Will resale owners be restricted from booking at VDH?
  • Legacy resale will be able to book and will not have restrictions. Post-2019 resale will very likely have restrictions and will not be able to book.

The more I think about it, the less likely I think I would buy direct. It would have to be REALLY affordable because I don't think the added benefits are ones we'd really use so the upcharge from resale wouldn't make sense for us. (But stranger things have happened, so I'd never say never, of course.)

Oh...and why the heck hasn't Disney released the prices of these VDH rooms?! People can book in THREE days, right??
FOMO is no small thing. Wait till you start walking past the new dvc lounge in Tomorrowland.

That one should be fairly easy for me since I'm 99% sure my son would have no interesting in hanging out up there.
I’ll be curious how I use the lounge. At Epcot it’s amazing to have a place to chill away from the hot humid or rainy weather. I will usually stop every trip. As someone who goes to dland 2-3x a week for a few hours, and usually perfect weather in SoCal, not sure how much I would make the effort to stop by. Maybe I’ll just bring a book to chill and snack on unlimited soft drinks and snacks. 😅

I will be 99% buying points at VDH for use at VDH mainly (pending pt chart). The direct pricing for resorts right now at wdw are all comparable that it makes sense if I want west coast priority. DVC has changed how I Disney. Before I would never consider staying onsite or nearby since I live so close but now I want a few days here and there for mini vacations. I know there were conversations about disney bubbles and I feel I enter the bubble when I leave the 5 freeway entering directly to Mickey’s. I don’t think I can tell you what restaurants are on Harbor even though I come so often.

I mean, we use the lounge at Epcot once a trip, for half an hour or so. I’m sure we will stop in at DL and get some free soda-but we aren’t going to trek to get to it when we could just head back to VGC and relax in our room. It’ll be interesting to see how they use it and how popular it is-I think there will be so many fewer DVC members on property at DL at any one time compared to WDW…

But hey, as I’ve said before. We get a perk! One tiny little perk…

If that lounge has popcorn --- we're in :)

It probably will be a decent view for fireworks if you don't mind losing out on the lightshow. would hope the audio gets piped into the lounge.
Uh I hope Disney is peeking in at the threads cuz free popcorn would be a game changer 🤣

I’ve done the dessert parties at the skyliner lounge so not sure if there will be outdoor space for the DVC lounge. But if there is and it’s open for fireworks, then piping in music will be so easy! I do love watching fireworks from Top of the World so that side view wouldn’t be all that terrible if it means less crowds and possible seats.

We always go back to the hotel mid-day. And when at DCA, being able to go right back to the Grand Cali was so nice! Sometimes, even if we were at Disneyland, we'd go through DCA so we could get scanned in and pick up a DAS return for RSR for when we come back a couple hours later.

Non-VDH resale will not be allowed any time just like Riviera.
Resale VDH? No problem booking studios even at 7 months, similar to Poly.

I suspect we might not have sales start this week. Not because of the bank run, but in part to avoid creating hold times for Member Services as cash bookings also go through them. And to buy time for more Guides to be licensed for CA.

Yes, I know Member Services doesn't sell contracts, Guides do, but a decent portion of members probably still will call MS first. Maybe they don't know their guide, or their guide has been changed, or can't find the number, or "I always just call MS, they can transfer me", or maybe they have questions MS may be best suited for. Hold times in MS are bad for cash bookings and add-on sales.

I'm also selfishly hopeful sales don't until later next week. My 11mo opens up at VGC next week and there's a slim but non-zero chance the points charts for all DL DVC changes with VDH and my stay is in the lowest season.

That's actually a zero chance. The charts are released for 2024 and will stay that way.
