VDH Opening

I am on the fence of buying at VDH, with one foot in the air ready to jump in šŸ˜‚.
We already own at VGC so I can get specific dates there and have enough points at WDW resorts that can be used to book random dates at VDH at 7 months (we are local to DLR and recently retired so random trips are easy). What will the availability at 7-month look like? Maybe I don’t need to buy immediately, wait till I stay there first?
I imagine it won't be too too bad just because it's brand spanking new, might have to pony up for an improved room view but even that I doubt just because it simply won't have enough owners to fill it yet.

Thank you! Not enough owners to book everything up was what I was hoping for. And yes it would be nice to check out ā€œpreferredā€ view anyways. 😁

I used to think this way. But the way they announced cash only booking makes me think Disney will be stingy with declaring inventory. They’d rather own the points themselves to sell as cash than to open it up for owners at 7 months.

Okay but how many ply would thou deem acceptable for one to wipe thy own butt? I want to FEEL the logo when I wipe. That's how you know you've made it in life.

Edit: okay I'm done I promise
Given that there is an endless supply, and that 2-ply is just two single plies stuck together, my initial instinct would be to fold it in half...or in half again (4-ply).

Full transparency: while I'm long past enduring long days on construction sites (I have guys that do that for me now), I made many a trip to the honey pot and you either deal with transparent TP, or you find a piece of newspaper (which often was more absorbent). When ya gotta go, it's definitely function WAY over form.

If it really got to me, I'd just bring a few rolls of Cottonelle from home.

YOU GUYS ARE NOT HELPING! 🤣 In all seriousness. You both are 200% right. VGC is unique, exclusive, and superior in every category, minus maybe the points chart, which still remains to be seen. Still. I can’t help but to feel the FOMO looking at these pictures. I really hope the VGC hard refurb comes soon to allay my doubts. I really need another trip to Disneyland. November can’t come soon enough!
FOMO is real!!!!

So maybe I am the only one, but I am not getting the toilet paper analogy, just sayin……..

It's not an analogy, it's a reference to the people who often seem so desperate to complain about something that, with no other rational criticisms to make, will always fall back on the perceived poor quality of the toilet paper.

If you told them the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi had shifted to single-ply TP, the response would be "Well, that's a deal breaker for me then."

I will have to defer to the many then, cause I’m still not getting it. But hey, carry on…..

There is a small number of people on these boards that incessantly complain about the quality of the toilet paper used by Disney resorts. To the point of pedantry. It doesn't matter how well Disney does on everything else, they'll still complain about the TP (and, occasionally, the lack of robes).

For many of the rest of us, referring to TP is a euphemism for any pedantic criticisms (and a subtle dig at those who make them).

Ok, now I get it!!! And I forgive you….:)

I hear you. We've been planning on buying 200-300 points at VDH for a year now. We own a few VGC points and have been pretty good at sniping additional stays there. It makes so much more sense to buy at VDH as you can use the points at VGC (likely not nice versa since VGC would be resale). My young son prefers DH to GCH. Everything points to buying VDH, but... The tiana rooms in particular just churn my stomach. A poster of a princess? Really? Those foldout bed accents? The Ikea kitchen? And the puke green bench as dining room seating (to go oh so will with purple and teal? I mean seriously, who designed this? Maybe it's the kitchen but the whole thing screams Ikea to me.

We're going to wait for the points chart and to see whether or not we can specify the room theme when booking. And then take a room tour to reassure ourselves we are looking at above Ikea quality. If all that checks out, will probably buy. Otherwise, we plan to wait for this to go on sale and hopefully bottom out VGC resale prices, then pounce on a (dreaming here?) sub-200pp contract???
Oh dear, if you dislike the aesthetic that much definitely don't buy in! You probably will not be able to request "non-Tiana" rooms and get lucky every time.

My thought is that since those rooms are the only ones to overlap studio, 1 and 2 br, they may be limited to the lockoffs. If so there would be far more SB studios and as for larger rooms, you could book non lock off. Maybe, maybe not. We'll see.

I wish we could hear a timeline of the VGC refurb. I am considering renting for our next trip and possibly even buying. But I REALLY want them to ditch the pull-out couch for a murphy bed.

Those VGC pullout beds are in REALLY bad shape. Many of them aren’t even flat.

Our very first trip after buying into DVC was a one night stay at VGC in Jan 2020. We were adding on to the ABD Southern California tour and after spending the last 2 (or 3?) nights in two beautiful cash rooms at GC that overlooked Pixar Pal Around with Mickey shining in all his glory we walked into a one bedroom villa on the first floor with a view of a wall. It was so dark and just seemed old. It was handicapped accessible to boot (didn't need or ask for that) and the toilet paper holder had fallen off of the wall. (Oops, didn't mean to bring up toilet paper :goodvibes ) The sofa bed was so horrible that our adult son ended up sleeping on the little pull down under the TV. Being our first DVC stay, we all thought, what have we done??

Flash forward and we've fallen in love with the DVC product and have bought many more contracts since, but yeah - VGC needs some work. The cash rooms are lovely though.

Oof....this makes me second guess everything.

I mean, they will be refurbished at some point. Look at Boulder Ridge. All I'd heard for the last several years was how run down those rooms are, but now that they are being refurbed everyone loves them (well not everyone, but you can't please everybody). Still, VGC will get the love it deserves hopefully sooner rather than later. And you cannot beat the overall resort. We absolutely loved it.

There is no doubt that VGC rooms need some love. But the resort itself is still amazing. And since Grand Cal is DLRs flagship resort, I have no doubt that Disney will make the refurb amazing.

WRT your experience, very unfortunate. VGC can really be hit or miss because there are no view categories. Every room is a standard view. Having said that, I’ve had great experiences with both staying in a ground floor room and the 6th floor. Ground floor was super convenient for the pools and the Paradise Pier direct entrance. The 6th floor was amazing because of views of DCA. I can’t confirm if this is true but from my personal experience, i have never gotten a great view room for stays of only 1 night. But longer stays usually have given us great rooms. This was the view from my last stay for 7 nights in a 1BR. I was in heaven every minute every day. VDH will never have something like this.DF904E14-2E8D-46F2-9E0A-708E473DC310.jpeg

VGC desperately needs work. But...i watched world of color 5x from my balcony last trip. Nothing else DVC has compares. The people on the observation deck would've loved our view.

This room was a product of a specific room request I made that was fortunately granted.
