VDH Opening

I've been looking at the photos and it seems neither studio type has a balcony. Am I missing something? What do the rest of you think? Does it matter to you? Outside seating is one of the big DVC draws for me.
I don't see DLR as much as a resort-type vacation as I do WDW. DLH and DGH are more like hotel rooms to me, so balconies aren't as important to me. DLH, after all, doesn't have any balconies.

True and that's probably why VDH could match up the styling (and cheaper to get away with it) as a DVC property.

VGC all have balconies. Balconies are nice. We enjoy them.

IF Disneyforward does advance eventually; those in DH and VDH will really clamor for those balconies. But that's way future disney IMHO

We will only stay in 1 or 2 bedroom units, so the balcony issue won't impact us at all :)

DLH did have balconies, prior to the most recent major renovation. Most were just Juliette balconies, but they did have sliding glass doors. When they did the last big renovation, they pushed the exterior walls out to make more floor space in the rooms (this is when they added the large fireworks headboards, etc). All the top-floor suites had "full" balconies, except on original tower (now the Adventure Tower).

All true. But that doesn't change the fact that there aren't any now, and though it could be done, including balconies in all DVC units there might make the building look too incongruous with the style of the other buildings.

My point was simply that balconies clearly weren't a top priority when a hotel that has them gets rid of them. I agree that balconies on the DVC building would look out of place as well.

And I'm guessing it won't be possible to rent points for them for summer 2024 so that won't be an option either.
Normally when the resort first has inventory declared there is more inventory then points sold so your existing points can get you in at the 7 month window. If you are just a renter other members would also be able to make this reservation with "Sleep around points"

OK, I get your point now.

I don't see the huge value-add prospect of hotel studio room balconies, especially the sliver-thin ones at most DVC properties. But if someone likes them, I won't begrudge them their preferences.

It's worth noting that it is "DISBoards terrible" not "terrible terrible." The two are very much not the same.

(I'll go out on a limb and opine that "DVC Member DISBoards terrible" is yet another category.)
Typically supported by "You'd never see this in (fill in appropriate hotel/resort that they've never stayed at, and couldn't afford anyway)".

VGC owner - yes, it's showing wear and in need of updating. Still a great place to stay and wouldn't delay visits because of some cracks and wear. If you're lamenting dropping a few hundred on the hotel, wonder what people say on the $5 popcorn and $40 balloons in the park.

Yes, DVC owner+DISboard terrible is a whole subset of picky privilege -- first world problems.

I have to add another subset: Annual Passholder :D

I don't think the cracks and wear would bother me. The only concern to me is the awful pull out couch.

And do you mean a few hundred for 1 night? When I've looked at renting it looks like it's at least $450 a night which is still a lot when compared to off site options.

We actually like the pull out couch over the other hotel pull outs. A LOT more support.

Yes, Disney bubble is expensive. The best new option is the Westin, which is finally a good hotel within a shortish distance. Still hard for mid-day layovers and march of death at night ;)

Every time I think about buying VGC and now VDH I think about the fact that VGC points rent for the exact same price as my Poly and VGF points on an 11mo rental, so why pay the $100 per point premium for the contract?
Poly and VGF rent for $24/pt at 11mo?

Conspiracy theory: VGC refurb intentionally left off the D23 refurb schedule announcement to entice current VGC owners to buy add-on contracts at the new shiny tower.

I emailed DVC management regarding the missing refurb about a month ago. A few days later I received a call from Member Services to follow up and get more details. They said they would pass along my concerns. I requested a call or email back from upper management. Crickets since.
