We ahve 5 nights in a 2 bedroom booked for the end of June. We were really thinking of adding the weekend nights until I saw 72 (I think pts per night). What would a 2 bedroom with cash be? Thanks
I just found a non-Disney site that lists 2005 rates for Vero. Your time period says $390 per night for a two-bedroom. The member discount, if available, would by 25% off that price. In either case you need to add 11% tax.
According to my spreadsheet, it is almost always cheaper to rent VB rooms for cash over the weekend, and some room types can be cheaper on weeknights too, if you can whangle a DVC discount. Save those points for Orlando stays (or rent them out) and get the weekend nights for cash; and if you get the DVC discount, all the better. Yep, $390 plus 11% tax is a better deal than 72 points
If you want to PM me with an email address, I can send you my spreadsheet of cash vs points costs at the various DVC resorts (I've looked at all but HHI). The times sampled are ones relevant to my family's vacationing habits, but it's all good info. If you want the spreadsheet, don;t expect an immediate response, as it lives on my office computer, and we're off for a few days. One of the things I have figured out about weekend rates is that at some Orlando DVC resorts in the 1BR category, the cash rates are sometimes better than the points rates, even after tax; this is always the case at VB, but I was suprised that it worked at BCV. BWV and VWL too.
MS can book you on cash w/ the DVC member discount only when they have it available. They will make rooms available for cash a month or two ahead of a check-in date when they think they will not be able to get those rooms booked on points. Some times even further out then a month or two but that is the usual I think. We booked our wknd nights last June at VB thru MS with the discount for a 1bdrm with a rate of $213.00 per night and had booked it in April if I remember correctly.
You can of course book cash nights much further out thru CRO since they retain 4% or whatever it is but that will be alot more $$ I'm sure.
