Vaping....much worse than cigarettes.

I think purposely inhaling anything into your lungs, cigarettes, marijuana, or vaping, is all just stupid. If one is slightly better or worse than another makes no difference, it is all bad. The garbage we breath in daily just from our industrialized atmosphere is bad enough.

People are going to do whatever they want. The whole mask debate has made this crystal clear to me. Telling them that it’s bad for them isn’t a strong deterrent. They have to be socially penalized before they will take action.

But at least raising the minimum age appears to be having an impact on teens' choices, not only among those in the 18 to 20 range who used to be able to buy but also among younger teens who have traditionally relied upon 18yo friends to purchase for them.

Your 100 percent wrong on the flavoring. As people quit smoking there tasts change. So the tabacco tastes as other non smokers smell it, bad. So they move on to the flavored vapes. You can feel whatever you want, but the flavors came about because adults didnt like the tabacco anymore.

What kind of data do you have access to in order to make that claim with 100-percent certainty?

It's well known that smoking begins to dull the senses of taste and smell. If the taste of tobacco tended to become unpalatable to smokers, I think it would make breaking the habit of smoking much easier.

Growing up in the 80s, I saw plenty of kids smoking in high school. Age limits really don’t stop bad behavior.

I don't understand our society. It took decades to progress from glamorizing and encouraging smoking to recognizing the damage that it does and it becoming almost taboo. And then comes vaping and we take 20 steps back. Back to advertisements in prime time, back to kids thinking it is cool, back to thinking it is "safe." The vaping companies are the same as the smoking companies. Have we learned nothing from the past? Why does anyone trust them?

You can't legislate away "sin" but that does not stop governments from trying. Just look at all the drinking bans all around the globe to "protect" against the spread of Covid-19. I'm surprised that governments have not tried to use Covid-19 to ban tobacco or vaping.

It's not even close to being stupid for cancer patients.

They don't stop everyone, of course. But there's a solid foundation of data for the idea that when something is age-restricted to 21+, it is harder for minors to find someone to buy for them than it is to get products that are age-restricted to 18+. That was the basis for raising the tobacco/vaping age and the first studies suggest it is working; the percentage of teens who report having used a vape in the last year declined by almost a third. Part of that is education, I'm sure, but another part is that when the age is 18, it is easy to ask a senior friend to buy for you after school or at lunch (if there's an open campus) but when the age is 21, it takes more effort to find someone of legal age willing to make those purchases.

And then those kids come back and say: why am I old enough to die for my country, but I’m not old enough to drink or smoke?

My data is everyone that buys it. Including myself. Ask, if you find a dissenting vote, I'll belive it. But you will not. They have cape fourms just like here with all the veiws you need. Or as i said just ask someone that vapes.

The same with pot smoking.

There's a huge difference between cannabis and nicotine/alcohol.
Maybe there is. Maybe there isn't. There's so much money being made in the industry right now I doubt anyone is looking that closely yet.

I don't understand our society embracing it so fully if for no other reason than the stench it adds to the public air spaces. Because, shocker, nobody really follows the rules.

There are a multitude of proven health benefits associated with cannabis use. Not to mention the vast amount of prescription meds people can come off of by switching to medical cannabis use. Cannabis as we learn more, is prescribed more as a first line effort in long term pain management.

But for some it's just another stinky drug - lol

I understand that and support its medical use. But what's going on right now is about so much more than that.

I completely agree with your concerns. As a respiratory therapist, I've seen firsthand the negative effects of vaping on lung health. It's crucial for teens to understand that vaping is not a safe alternative to cigarettes, and the risks are becoming increasingly evident. Encouraging them to quit is vital for their well-being.
First off, no one said vaping was a safe alliterative for smoking, it was invented as a smoking allternative that was healthier and to help people stop smoking. This is important to understand. It never started out this way. This was 20 years ago. And being someone who smoked, vaped and now smokes agian( a lot happens in these 3 years that that thread was brought back from the dead) my lung scans and breathing were way better vaping. But unfortunately people decided that stuff like flavored vapes were against the law. So where I am you can only get tobacco flavered vapes. When you stop smoking, your tastes change, and you really want to get away from tabbacco. So, here we are again, I am smoking. Since you are an expert, pre tell the diffrence in a heavy smokers lungs vs a vapors lungs. This is with olny goverment regulated substances. My guess would be the vaping is way safer.

Thats for smoking also, you can hop on a cruise ship or go overseas and get cigerettes at 150 less a carton. There is a reason why vaping is being surpressed as an allternative. They want the tax money. This is dependent on where you live. But all states heavily tax cigaretts. Now if you call it pipe tabacco its way cheaper. Go figure....

Well, I would not have an issue with raising the age to sign up for Selective Service to 21 as well, so long as 18-20 year olds who want to volunteer are allowed to do so. No possibility of a draft until 21, but you could volunteer at 18, would be a good compromise.

Most people are much more mature at 21, and have a better ability to understand the long term consequences of their actions, than they did at 18. Also, many people are still getting an education from 18-20, whether in college, a trade school, or as an apprentice. Waiting until 21 to get involved in habits that can have negative impact on that education isn’t necessarily a bad thing either.

I think there are a lot of items we use every day and consider safe, that we will find out in a decade or two are bad for our health. Vaping is just the tip of the iceberg . . .

I'm not sure how raising the age for Selective Service relates to my experience with vaping, but I understand your point. However, I'd like to clarify that my message was about the benefits I've experienced from switching from smoking to vaping. While I agree that maturity and education are important, I think it's unfair to lump vaping in with other potentially harmful habits without considering the evidence. Many studies have shown that vaping is significantly safer than smoking, and it's helped me and many others quit cigarettes for good. Let's focus on promoting accurate information and responsible use, rather than making sweeping generalizations.
Someone else was comparing the age for the military with the age for alcohol and smoking, and I was replying to them, not you. I apologize if I wasn’t clear about that. I do agree with you that used properly vaping can be a tool to quit smoking. I don’t believe it’s totally safe, but I do believe, at least based on what we know today, that it is safer than smoking. I would prefer that kids growing up would not start smoking or vaping, but that may be unrealistic on my part.
