What are you giving up if you do a value resort instead of a moderate? We have STILL not made a final decision. I hate to waste a bunch of money on a room that we will not be in very much!!!

Thanks in advance:D

I'd also like to know the answer to this. We've stayed at POFQ and POR, but are planning PC for our next trip. Other than the pool slide, sit-down restaruant, and a smaller room...what are the differences?? and are the rooms really that much smaller??

The Value Resorts all rooms are 260 sq ft. All the moderates EXCEPT CBR are 314 Sq Ft. Caribbean rooms are 340 sq ft.

The value resorts have food courts only; the moderates have food courts plus full-service restaurants.

The value resorts have pools without much theming. The moderates have both very large themed pools as well as smaller "quiet" pools.

I have also been wondering how many perks you loose in the rooms theirselves. We stayed at carribean. Are the rooms as nicely furninshed? How is the noise level in the rooms? Do you hear alot of the other guests around you and do you still get the disney soaps and special cleaning service. Our maid was so great, arranging all my daughters dolls in a new position every morning. It was a treat to come home to a nice quiet room and see what our dolls were doing next.

Thanks

The rooms at the value resorts are not as nicely furnished as the rooms at moderate and deluxe resorts. Some people complain about noise from the Turbo toilets at value resorts. I didn't really notice on our last trip to All Star Sports. I actually found deluxe resorts with their interior hallways to be more noisy. Value resorts have a single bar or mickey soup and liquid soap and shampoo dispensers in the tub/shower. I think I read that Pop Century will go back to the regular amenities. All resorts have the same kind of cleaning staff. I have only had one "special" maid in many, many trips. And yes, I tip ;).

I personally stay in value resorts or deluxe resorts. I stayed in a moderate once (CBR) and loved it. BUT ... I currently don't find the additional ammendities to be worth paying $20-$40 more per night for a moderate over a value resort. I guess I have "cheap" trips and "expensive" trips :).

BTW, the another big difference between value resorts and moderate resorts is the pool areas. Moderate resorts have pool slides and hot tubs. Value resorts do not.

For us the pool difference -- slides and hot tub -- are the most important element. There also are more pools at the moderates, so the crowd is much more spread out. When we were at All Stars this summer, the pool was essentially taken over by a very large (200 or so) group of teens. With so many pools at moderates, this would be much less likely to happen.

As far as room amenities go, we didn't laundry bags in our rooms and the housekeeper was unable to get them for us. She was very nice and gave us gigantic garbage bags.

We have also found moderates to be more lushly landscaped. Buildings are smaller than at the values, so there is room inbetween for more landscaping.

My dh thinks there is less attention to maintenance detail at All Stars. There was a heavy rain during our trip, and huge squishy puddles of water around the helmets in the football building and on the playing field were still there at the end of the day. I don't know that he is correct, but he doesn't think that would have happened at the other resorts we've stayed at.

From my perspective, by staying at a value instead of a moderate you're giving up a better pool area (slide and hot tub), a sit down restaurant, a little bit more room and the feel of a nicer resort.

However, if you're spending most of the time at the parks, I'd put the savings to a day at a water park and stay in the value resort. All the moderates seem very large to me and end up involving alot of walking that I didn't notice as much in in the values).

We have never had a problem with noise at the value resorts, but then we go at slow times.

Alluded to, but not said....

You are more likely to get school trips and other large parties (for instance, cheerleaders) at the value resorts. I believe most of these groups are steered to Pop Century now

One thing nobody has said about the Value resorts is that they have NO THEMEING in the rooms. There aren't any characters anywhere. Not on the bedspeads, walls, bathrooms.

I would never stay in a Value again. I have stayed in enough motel 6's before not to want that at WDW!!

Did you mean to say something other than "value"? I've stayed at two AS resorts and, if anything, the themeing was borderline over-the-top (but probably not too much for kids) with many characters to be found, some inside the rooms, some outside.

Edited to clarify what I was trying to say.

There is theming in the rooms. I actually have not stayed yet, but done tons of research on my Feb 04 trip to PopCentury.

There is theming in the bedspreads .. see pics..

The PC has theming of Lady and the Tramp on the bed spreads

As well as mickey and that old 70s mickey phone on other bed spreads. The in-room theming may not be par with the mods. but it is there.

Also. I think if you are not going to spend TONS of time at the resort.. value is the way to go..it saves $. anyway you said its your first trip. Do value, and see what you think. you can upgrade up to Mod next trip.

Good Luck!

According to Tyler (who is at PC now,) the school groups will be focused in the all stars and the overflow will go to Pc rather than the mods. like before..so if they were not a problem at Mods they probably won't be at pc but All Stars might be another story. I have seen posted before that most groups are sent to the sports mainly and Alss are the noisest, music the least. hub. and I were just discussing if more young families would gear toward the as's while us, Uhhum, more *mature* families would be more interested in the themeing of the pc.
edited cause this *mature* person just found out she is going to be a GRANDMA in July so we might be heading for the allstars after all(LOL)!!!!

Unless the "Rooms" at All Stars Music, Jazz building, have changed since 2001. There wasn't any "character themeing" in the "Room".
Oh, there were 2 star shaped wall lights, that glarred so bad we couldn't use them. But that was it. We didn't even get Mickey Soap till we had been there 3 days ans Dh saw it on the maids cart and ask if we could have a bar.

The bathroom tiles are like film in the ASMo. The lights have popcorn box covers, the spreads do have characters on them and there is a picture of Dalmatians (or which ever bldg) on the wall. I think there is plenty of theme! We got Mickey soaps everyday during our 1999-2003 stays.

I've stayed at every level of WDW resort. I do not believe that I have stayed at any so far with "character theming", however. Poly? Nope, I don't remember any character theming. Dolphin? Nope. Pofq? Nope. BWV? Nope. AS Music? Nope.
The Poly was like Hawaii. BWV were like a boardwalk resort. Pofq was like I imagine New Orleans to be. AS Music jazz building had pics of jazz players on the walls, and their were records and things on the bedspread. etc., etc., etc. The AS resorts have just as much theming as the mods and deluxes.
Music can be a theme. Sports can be a theme. I've found each and every resort I've stayed at to be themed- just not themed in the sense that there are WDW characters plastered all over the rooms.

The value resort rooms are small and the pools don't have a slide. Stick two queen sized beds in a WL room, and it seems pretty small as well. Book two connecting rooms at an AS Resort, and you've got over 500 feet of space. I like variety.

We are staying in 2 rooms at POP and will have 2 bathrooms and 4 beds. I think we will have a total of 560 feet. All this for 49.00 per room per night is a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Yes, we could stay in one room at a deluxe but I would rather spend my extra $ on food and shopping. 2 bathrooms is the most important with 3 kids.
And yes, the values do have theming.
Check out the pictures to POP.

We have stayed at AllStars and POR. Our rooms at the AS all had theming. On the bedspreads, the shower curtain, the walls of the bathroom..and we've always had plenty of Mickey soap. We often go off times, so the pools don't mean that much to us..however, when going when it's warm enough to enjoy them, we enjoy the mod "quiet" pools..something that we never find at AS. They have a quiet pool, but it's generally got a lot of kids in it, while the POR quiet pools are just that..quiet. The kids are all over to the slide pool.
My grands prefer the AS, and don't ever want to go back to POR. We love POR..great flowers, wonderul place to stroll at night, etc. but for us it's just another nice hotel. Call me crazy, but for kids, you can't beat the theming of the AS's.
