Valium and Flexeril: Which would you take if you had to?

flexeril...my dr had prescribed valium, that pretty much knocked me out, so relaxed i had no control over my own body. it was freaky. then they gave me something else, of course can't remember what -it started with an s--but that made me super hyper and twitchy. the flexeril worked without overdoing or makeing me hyper.
if it doesn't work right for him the dr can give him something different to try. everyone reacts differently to medication.

ETA: the valium i took before my Lasik surgery was the first valium i ever took in my life...and boy did it do it's job that day!!! i was like hey doc, you gonna burn my eye with that laser..that's cool, no problem..i feel good...la di da...i was so freakin relaxed, didn't bother me in the least to let them slice my eyeballs and burn em with a laser! (just goes to show you how MUCH it relaxes you)!!

Flexeril might be what one of my drs prescribed (I have the generic, and the generic name of this sounds familiar). If so, it made me VERY sleepy, which wasn't such a bad thing if I was taking it in the evening (it stayed with me a long time, though, and if I took it too late I had a drug hangover the next morning). I would NOT take Valium for that problem--highly addictive. I do have a prescription for another muscle relaxant that doesn't make me sleepy. I don't think it's addictive, not that I take it all the time, anyway (supposed to take it more often than I take it, however).

I've never taken valium, but flexeril has been a god-send to me! With my back problems and surgery, it's the only way I've been able to sleep. I wouldn't recommend taking it during the day though, or the sand man may catch you at the most inappropriate times! :)

You're so right!!

My son took his first pill of Flexeril about 5 this evening and has been dozing on and off since about 6:30! I don't think I would have him try it before he goes to school!!

I have taken Robaxin (sp?) and Flexeril for neck strain and neither one of them did anything for me. At first the Flexeril made me really sleepy, but now they don't. I have also been prescribed Vicodin for the pain, and it while it put me in a happy mood for an hour or so, it never really did anything for the pain. I have never heard of Valium used as a muscle relaxer, but I wouldn't mind trying it. I just feel so weird telling the dr each time that these pills don't do anything for the pain, like I'm trying to get "good stuff" or something. KWIM? The only think that really helps at all is heat on my neck and shoulder. I am having an ergonomics specialist come check out my setup at work and see if adjustments can be made that might help.

Valium can work well for spasms, but i think it is more effective for spasms caused by muscle tension. Flexiril is a good skeletal muscle relaxant....but boy it can be sedating the first few doses.
The one drawback with the valium is short term memory loss. Or not a problem if you want to forget (like at the dentist!)
