It certainly sounds like the two fires were exacerbated by similar cladding on the buildings. Is this type of building material common in Europe?

I can't vouch for Europe, but it certainly was popular here. The real crime? Many of the buildings that had it, still do! No-one's taking the rather nasty hint

I thought of Grenfell immediately.
I was thankful to read the firefighters were using cranes
to rescue people.
