Vacuum cleaner recommendations - Update Pg. 8

 I love my Dyson.

And for what it's worth, I've bought several products over the years that Consumer Reports has recommended and not one has lived up to their hype. I'll trust word of mouth over their magazine from now on.

I use the Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 at one of my clients house and it is a bear...weighs to much, the tools are more difficult to use...you can't convince me that my Dyson isn't worth it..

We bought 2 windtunnels, back to back, BOTH of them burned up (literally - smoke flying, terrible stench, etc) and they are rated highly by CR. I thought the 1st time was a fluke so we bought another - nope - not a fluke.

We bought a cheapy $50 one at Target for now (can't even remember what it is!) until we can afford the Dyson.

Heaven forbid someone have a different opinion about a vacuum cleaner?! What's next? Garbage disposals? Light Bulbs?

As I stated in my previous post, lack of education has a lot to do with why some persons attack others on these boards. I have often observed members attack other members just because the attacker doesn't agree with the facts or opinions presented by another member. The attacker is not able to engage in civil discourse and instead resorts to various ad hominid attacks in their attempt to discredit the member with which they disagree.

This strategy, of course, always fails because it reveals the attacker's lack of knowledge and also demonstrates their general ill will

Are Dysons very loud?

We have an older Dirt Devil Vision Bagless vacuum. Not only does it not work too well, but it is the LOUDEST vacuum that I have ever come across. I hate it.

OMG, this thread should be a DIS classic! When I clicked it on again after seeing it had gone 4 pages, I thought "there can't POSSIBLY be a controversy about vacuum cleansers, can there?!" Once again, the DIS comes through! :rotfl2:

Guess I'll go ignorantly through life just THINKING all that dog hair is being sucked up by my Dyson. But SonicLogic...you might want to try this for your floors and rugs..I hear Consumer Reports highly recommends it ;) :

drgnfly30, thanks for the cut and paste. Just makes this that much more amusing. :teeth:

OMG! I thought the same thing, wondering how my little 17 post thread about vacuums jumped to 4 pages!! Wow, I started a debateable topic! I'm pretty sure I'm going with a Dyson. If I don't buy the specific "Animal" one will it still do well on thick cat hair? Thanks!

The only difference with the animal the others are the attachments - all of them have the same power and such, they just have additional attachments that aid in sucking up animal fur off furniture and stuff. Since our dogs don't really shed, we realized that the basic one will work since you can buy attachments later if you need them. That's at least what I read and was told at 3 different stores that sold them.

(we haven't bought one yet, no $$ for it, but hopefully will in the next year!)

Thanks!!!! :wave2:

BTW - who woulda thunk it...that a vacuum thread would turn into a *****ing and pissing match?!!!! :rotfl2:

I'm never surprised by anything on here anymore, :rotfl:

Hey.....Dyson owners get very passionate about their vacs....My Dyson has a name and is a valued member of my family :rotfl:

The Dyson we own is quiet on the carpet, a bit louder on the wood floors. We were able to get our purple animal one for $350 from Kohl's about a month ago, had a 30% off discount card. Just love it.

Actually, I don't. Just want to bring a little common sense into the mix.

Common sense??? You say your vacuum is just as good and cheaper but I have yet to see you post that you have used a Dyson on a regular basis...You might have some standing then.

I work with most of the vacuums mentioned here on a weekly basis, including yours and I say the Dyson is best. If you choose to disagree that is fine but don't make it seem like my choice wrong because I don't have the mental capacity to make a competent decision.

Gosh, I never thought you'd admit error. It's okay for you to be wrong. Don't beat yourself up. Just learn from your experience and go forward.

Not that your worth my key strokes but I think we all know that I was referring to YOU!! You were one attacking us Dyson owners (or our lack of common sense) for purchasing a vacuum you've never even tried... I didn't once attack your common sense OR your Eureka! But I give up... you can go on thinking all of US are delusional.. I'm going to go vacuum my carpets just for you!

As I stated before, anecdotal evidence is nice but it proves nothing. Controlled scientific tests have proven the Dyson models to be rather moderate in their performance level. On top of that, the Dyson models are very expensive. Why pay top dollar for a Dyson, Kirby, Oreck, Riccar, Sebo, Miele, Aerus, Filter Queen or a Rainbow? All of these machines are very expensive, yet their performance is marginal as compared to many other vacuums costing far less.

Perhaps vacuums are now a status symbol and some people feel the need to buy an expensive machine because of exclusivity and styling, regardless of their actual performance. Scientific tests, common sense and practical experience support the conclusion that the Dyson vacuums are price/performance failures. I am truly sorry if you bought one.

OMG, you are too funny. Where do you get this stuff? I can only assume that you're sitthing there :rotfl2: as much as I am about this thread, because you can't possibly be serious about this mission to save the world from Dysons. :rotfl: You know...there are many many thousands of people out there in the world in far more dire circumstances who could use your help. ::yes:: Meanwhile, thanks for the laughs!

Well, if you desire to spend a lot of money for an inferior product, that's your business of course. It's a free country. I would feel guilty touting a Dyson vacuum considering their poor price/performance ratio. Perhaps you are more interested in style rather than performance.
