Vacuum cleaner recommendations - Update Pg. 8

We just bought a dyson and love it. We have the pet hair attachment and it works great. We have wood floors for the most part, only the family room is carpet and it's great, doesn't scratch the floor either. Love all the attachments, and it's easy to use.

I lve my dyson!!!

Now there is a new one that pivets on a ball. I wish that was around 3 yrs ago!
Same here!

This is the one I have...it's the Full Gear:

We got it off of this website...the price was good (relatively speaking) and shipping was free; they were great about the warranty, and replaced a hose when needed:

We have a German Shepherd who sheds like crazy sometimes, and I'm still fascinated by how well the Dyson picks it up.

My vacuum of 15 years died a month ago. I like a canister vac with attachments, so I bought a GE at Walmart. 12 amp for $149.00.(It's dark green, if you look for one).
I am so happy with it. Didn't realize what a poor job my old vac was doing until I started using this one. It made the carpet look so much better!
I'm sure the Dyson is a super upright, but this retiree's budget won't go there. :)

I hope that is a play on words...because on a weekly basis I use many many types of vacuums at my clients houses and the Dyson is the only one that does suck....If the people with Orecks used a Dyson after they finished vacuuming they would be amazed....I did the test at one of my clients who owned a Oreck...we had to vacuum the room twice to get all the dirt and dog hair up...nothing you could see with the eye..it just ended up in the vacuum....
Why pay $600 for a vacuum that offers less performance than one for $140? Brand loyalty is not good measure.

Because I didn't pay $600 for mine.. I've been through plenty of $140 vacuums that broke or just plain didn't do the job... Don't know how me buying one Dyson is brand loyalty but be sure that when & if mine dies, I will be brand loyal for sure... My 4 yo dyson is the ONLY thing that has ever done a good job in my pet filled house!

I suggest you read the October, 2005 issue of Consumer Reports. Dyson is overpriced and it under performs.

I suggest you use one....I clean for a job I have used just about every vacuum on the market and the Dyson far out cleans any that I have ever used.....Consumer Reports can say all they want I use a Dyson at home and absolutley love it other vacuums don't even begin to compare. I only paid $325 for mine not $600. I have also lent it out to people to try and each and everyone come back thrilled with it's performance.

I had a client purchase a windtunnel because of what was said in Consumer Reports...it was by far one of the worst vacuums I have ever used. She returned and bought a Dyson and is thrilled..

Dyson are a resonable weight (so carrying up stairs isn't to stressful), they are easy to empty (think of the money you save on bags), they are easy to keep clean and the attachments are by far the easiest I have ever used.

Anecdotal evidence is nice and I'm glad that your Dyson works for you, even if you got taken to the cleaners. The Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 is a far better machine and it costs less.

Root8Cyclone :rotfl2: The vacuum cleaner con artists still make their mark.

When I first read your post, I thought you had written "With 3 VERY HAIRY...PERSONS"!!!! :rotfl2: :paw: I *know* you wrote "persians", but my brain saw something else.

Back to the Dyson fans...do these vacuums work well on wooden floors *and* on carpets?

I'm still sitting here chuckling...PERSONS!

*snicker* :p

I was in Sam's club today and ALMOST bought one....I really want the purple one for pets but this one was blue and green. Does anyone know what it is suppose to do (well, what is its main function - like the purple one is for pet hair).

Oh yeah, and it was only 399.00.......I figured I would ask you guys before taking the plunge.

Gee, it's like a lightbulb going off.. my four years of happily using my Dyson must have all been an illusion, how could it have just LOOKED like it was working better than any vacuum I've ever owned?!? I'm throwing it in the trash tomorrow & buying the Eureka you recommended... NOT!!!!

The only difference with the animal the others are the attachments - all of them have the same power and such, they just have additional attachments that aid in sucking up animal fur off furniture and stuff. Since our dogs don't really shed, we realized that the basic one will work since you can buy attachments later if you need them. That's at least what I read and was told at 3 different stores that sold them.

(we haven't bought one yet, no $$ for it, but hopefully will in the next year!)

If you desire to spend more money on a vacuum cleaner that has been proven to be less effective than a less expensive model, then that is your choice. Is it your desire to drag others down to a lower level of performance?

Sorry, but until Consumer REports comes to my house and cleans it thoroughly - it's just an opinion......and you know what that's like:

Opinions are like @**holes, everyone's got one and no-one thinks theirs stink.

I understand that you feel very passionately about this, but I have to say that I post on 3 boards on a regular basis and have read literally hundreds of raves about Dyson - can't think of 1 person that is not 110% happy with theirs. She is certainly not the only one to recommend it to others, and be happy with it. I think accusing her of dragging others down is a bit harsh - esp since we're just talking vacuums here! ;)

Maybe we should just agree to disagree and move on?

No... but obviously it's your intention to bring all of us satisfied Dyson owners down a peg or two... so who do you work for Consumer Reports or Eureka?! the OP asked for recommendations, instead of posting yours (until much later) you chose to instead slam ours...hmmmm :rolleyes1
