Vacuum Cleaner for Pet Hair on Rug and Tile Floors?

Ordinarily we would be the same way not wanting to spend a lot of money but when we moved into our house we just got tired of the Bissell we had not doing that great. My mom had gotten us a Panasonic one and it crapped out after a few uses (she took it back and got her money back). That's when we started looking into other ones.

The Dyson wasn't inexpensive but we had gotten it when it came with multiple attachments included rather than buying separately (other than the one or two that it came with). They also send e-mails on occasion regarding taking in the Dyson to an authorized repair facility for a check up for free (my dad was able to do that with his Hoover too back in the day). Our Dyson has 2 settings one for carpet and one for more delicate surfaces like tile (in all bathrooms and laundry room) and hardwood (in our case engineered hardwood in the main level in certain spots). First time using the Dyson after using the Bissell on the same spot on the carpet for comparison and we decided it was money well spent this time.

That said we do have a Bissell deep cleaner (it was a wedding gift from my husband's grandmother who noticed us really eyeing it) and we've been happy with it.

*Not trying to convince you to get a Dyson just sharing our experience as we are just like you in not normally wanting to spend a lot of money on things.

Totally understand and appreciate the input. I'm cheap, but certainly won't just buy the cheapest thing out there regardless. As odd as it seems, I really do think our 6 year old Kenmore still does a great job. It sucks up tremendous amounts of dog hair...and 3 kids being messy. But after years of abuse, it's physically falling apart. That, and our female puppy got a hold of the brush attachment and chewed it. :D I don't mind spending $100-$150 for one that's going to work, but just can't see a reason to spend much more than that. Frankly, with 3 big dogs and 3 kids our house gets trashed. The carpets will need replacing along with the hardwoods. But we're not going to bother with that for a while yet, we just try to keep what we have respectably clean.

The best thing for pet hair, believe it or not, is a rubber squeegee. WalMart sells long handled versions by Rubbermaid Commericial (the black and yellow janitorial tools sold in hardware department), but any rubber window cleaning squeegee will work.

an.
Why not buy a brush attachment and a roll of duck tape. I don't think today's $100 vacuum will be as good as what you have.

I love my shark navigator. I bought a generic extension kit on amazon with a 20 foot hose that works great with it. We have a german shepherd so we vacuum twice a week.

I have a Dyson V10 stick. It works fine with a lot of suction BUT emptying the canister can be difficult. I had a heck of a time getting it to open; after I called customer service they walked me through several things then insisted that I send a video of what I was doing. They claimed they never got the video (I sent it a few times) and eventually had me return it. They replaced it but the slide to dump the canister can still be finicky and the filter clogs really easily even with following their recommended monthly cleaning.

I wouldn't buy another Dyson given their level of customer service and the cost of the product. They might have been great a few years back but all of the reviews I'm seeing for their newer products are less than stellar.

Whatever you end up purchasing, if you are comparing prices — Bed Bath & Beyond has 20% off coupons that work on Shark brand vacs. And I love my Shark Pro Liftaway. Works great on lab hair as others have mentioned.

We have the robot as well and I can say we're happy with it so far. Once the schedule has been set, it starts cleaning and can go back to where it left off just before its battery ran out. We mostly have carpet at home + a shedding dog. It cleans well tbh, however, it gets stuck in a room sometimes, which is a bit disappointing as it can no longer clean the rest of what it's supposed to clean.

Get a cordless Dyson absolute. It has both hard and carpet heads. It works great on the pet hair. The newer the version you buy, the longer the battery life. I have 2...one stays upstairs and one downstairs. Makes cleaning so easy!

Agreed--I have a V8 absolute. It's the best.
