Vacation Tips for Women! :)

Though I think I read the first 30 before my last trip in Feb 2010!

Beware: Long reply ahead!

Anyway Re: Divacup vs Instead. I tried instead and really didn't like, but I LOVE the diva cup. Have used it for years, feel great about being better for the environment plus not giving money to male owned company each month, just because I'm a woman! :hippie:

NuvaRing: My sister had a reaction to hers that we've since found out is not uncommon - It wore an ulcer inside of her. Scary.

Monistat cream - AWESOME as a makeup base however it didn't work as well as I thought it would for it's intended purpose. I like long flow-y skirts in the summer, they keep me the coolest and will pop on some bike shorts if I'll be walking a lot, but I also found that diaper rash cream works amazingly well. There's this stuff called Butt Paste (I forget the beginning of the name off the top of my head) that works amazingly well as a barrier!

I use body glide when I'm running long distances so I'm sure It would work as well.

Moleskin save my life last trip!

Dresses/ skirts with pockets are my favorite thing.

I walk around the park with my running socks - they wick away moisture and keep you feeling great.

When I got SICK of my BF last trip (we were at CBR) I went for a swim in the quiet pool. (I also went because Journey Into Imagination's skunk smell got in my hair and I stunk for days and thought the chlorine would help - it totally did!) That 45 minutes to myself while he cooled off in the room made the rest of our trip AMAZINGLY pleasant! Also as it was Feb I got to be totally alone in the pool.

I will totally try the spray the inside of your clothes with deodorant thing. I DO need to stay away from aluminum but I know avalon organics has a spray deodorant. Since the aluminum makes me break out (my skin peels!) I use deodorant that is not an anti-perspirant - I'm a little afraid of how this is going to work in late September/ early October when it will be much warmer. Does anyone know of any brands that might help really well?

To the woman who needs a wig (with alopecia) This broke my heart. I know a girl from college with the same condition. When we met (when we were 18) she wore wigs but by the time we graduated she would either use head wraps or was brave enough to just go unashamedly out. She keeps sure to keep her head covered in winter or covered with spf in summer. I also had a male roommate with the same - so he doesn't have as much to deal with.

Shifting gears - does anyone bring a nook/kindle into the parks for entertainment whilst waiting in line? How do you keep it safe (and dry?) I love love love my nook!

If you bring bare minerals on a carry-on bag on a plane, do you have to put them in the same bag as your small sized liquids/gels? I've kept it in that bag in the past, but would like a little more room...

I can't wait until my next trip! My first solo trip ever (until my baby bro joins me a a few days in)

Trinity524-

I got this hat a few years ago. I have two now in different colors. They are so durable I can roll it up for packing or shove it into my beach bag. I have dropped it in the ocean and after it dried it still looked great. It has held up to multiple washings as well. It also has a drawstring inside so you can cinch down on your head in the wind.

Well now I can't get my picture of the hat to work, Just google-
Scala 100% cotton sun hat. That'll get you there

Hi Ladies :grouphug:

Megan, I am bringing my Kindle and brining ziplock backs to make sure it stays dry. Also bringing ziplocks in all sizes for things I want to make sure stay dry. Worked great last trip for our camera and video camera.

Love all of these tips! :worship: I wish I had time to look through every page but I feel like that would take forever so I'll have to settle for just a few of them.

Love the tips I've seen so far. :yay:

Since I'm not going until September, I'm going to try to read all 49 pages before then. :surfweb:

Well, I didn't get any work done, but I read most of this thread. That's progress, right? :rolleyes1

A tip for sweaty head. You've been at the parks all day and you're hot and your hair is feeling sweaty/greasy, but you don't really have time (or energy) to take a shower. Sprinkle some baby powder onto your hair and brush through. It absorbs the moisture but brushes right out leaving your hair feeling MUCH cleaner.

Also, if you spray your feet (top, bottom, sides, and between toes) with an antiperspirant on a regular basis, you'll discover that your feet start to sweat less. (Thank you Dr. Oz.)

Thanks HappyJen, I guess I'll double ziplock my nook! I really wanted to bring it to the parks! Good idea!

Christy I saw that tip on Dr Oz too! Isn't he great for practical tips? :)

I just got the monistat chafing gel powder and bodyglide..
The body glide is great..I gave up on wearing my Dansko gladiator sandals because it burns..but thanks to bodyglide..I feel comfy!!!
Can't wait to use the Monistat Gel as my make up primer..
Love this thread!!

my new essential is going to have to be a shellac manicure not a chip not a scratch for 3 weeks.

I have! I love it!!

Thanks!

I wondered if it worked well... I think it might be a timesaver in the mornings. I'm going to WDW in September with my mom, sister, and sister's BFF. 4 women trying to all get ready in the mornings at the same time will take awhile, LOL!

So glad I found this thread! I have lots of tips now for the first trip (hopefully) this year with the kiddo.

And despite 49 pages previous, I have a tip! For you ladies who have a problem with deodorant, there is one that is completely aluminum free. It's called Lavilin and you don't even have to apply it every day! I don't know how well it would work under the girls, but it is awesome in the armpits!
I got mine at the Vermont Country Store online.

Leaving in the morning!! I don't know if we will be able to sleep tonight, i'm sure I will be up reading on the boards:surfweb: I need to find the post about picture taking. I am trying to practice, this is our 2nd trip and I think there is one picture from our first trip last year that I find somewhat acceptable. I need calming vibes, starting to stress, well I have been, but really starting to now. My mom is coming with us, and we are all staying in the same room. Now, we get a long great and my DH gets along great with her as well, but she knows how to push my buttons. My dad decided not to go this trip, so she opted to just stay in our room and wants to be closer to her grandson. Anyway, what are ways or things you have done to avoid irritating or being irritated by your family (includes spouse) while on vacation. Don't get me wrong, love them all dearly, but sometimes it is overwhelming, and i'm usually the designated go to person for everything in the family. I am also aware that I will get on their nerves too, so trying to think of ways to make the week better for everyone. Ok, thanks, even if nobody replies, I feel like this has been a helpful therapy session :grouphug:

Congratulations on your trip. My best advice to you is to not leave your patience at home. It can be magical for everyone if we remember to put the needs of others at the same priority as our own. I speak from experience when we went as a whole family in 2009, that is what I did with my non-disney loving members of family. We agreed to split up at times, and I knew that I would just have to come again. This year it is just me and disney-loving daughter:banana:, so, to cut it short, remember that there will be a next time! Have fun!

Thanks!

LOL I hear you! they make two different formulations. And I think it will def be a timesaver in the morning!!! :cool1::thumbsup2

I also make sure I wear lipbalm with sunscreen in it. Bert's bees makes a good one- and it can be tinited, too- so no need for lipgloss.

I use a light sunscreen as a make up base (Nutrogena works best) and then use mineral make up over that, with a light lip gloss that has SPF in it for make up.

I keep my hair short pretty much all the time (besides my daughters all have long hair and putting it up takes a while one less head to pony tail or braid saves time!)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Body Glide for any rubbing in shorts or skirts.

I never take my Burt's to WDW anytime from May-October. it melts every time. And that can be a mess!
