I have done all of the above and I MUCH prefer immediate family only. I really do not like vacationing with people other than my DH and kids.

But I will take any vacation I can get ;)

When I was a kid, we did a lot of extended family vacations. That cured me of ever wanting to do that again. I like to vacation with just my DH and DS's.

I love vacationing. Any vacation is a good vacation imo. I just got back from Paris with my 2 best girlfriends. It was fabulous and while I did miss my husband, I'm glad I had the girls only time.

Same goes with my time with only dh. Yes we miss the kids but some times it's a great vacation without them.

Friends or immediate family. Extended family is and always has been a bust for us. Last year it went so badly, I came home and scheduled a second week for just us, lol.

Vacation always seem to bring out some crazy, werewolf crap in people. I don't know what it is. I can't vacation with a group. I need to go solo or with intimate family. I went do Disney World with my mom last year and it was ugly. The last two times I went to Disney (with groups) it was disasterous. One day I want to go back just with my daughter.

Immediate family!

Last year, we took a friend of DS's with us to GWL. The kid wanted to do one thing, DS wanted to do one thing, and we wanted them to stick together because they are friends.

Needless to say, this year will just be DH, DS, myself. And DS can do whatever he wants to do (he wanted to spend a lot of time in the teen room last time and his friend wanted to Magiquest).

We have done vacations with friends or extended family that were great fun. We have also done vacations with friends or extended family that were like a forced death march. We've never regretted a vacation with just our little family, though. So of the choices, I much prefer just our immediate family (and at WDW, the best trips are with just me and DD- sorry, DH).

I've done all three, and would do so again. Trips with extended family and/or friends are a different kind of trip though. It always worked for us because our personalities meshed, but for "high drama" relationships, trips like that can take a lot more work and patience. As always, YMMV.

My vacation preferences kind of straddle a couple of the choices. On Disney trips, my husband does not come with us as he cannot stand WDW, so my daughter will invite a friend or 3 as our guests and sometimes, I'll invite a friend too. On our family vacations though I like it to be just immediate family.

Anyone, we vacation by ourselves, with immediate family, extended family or even just friends. Everyone likes vacationing with us because we are very organized, plan a lot of cool things to see/do and love to eat out at nice places.

I am open to anything but other people tend to ruin things so I put immediate family only because convincing DH to vacation with others would be a really hard sell.

Just me, my hubby & our kids. Anything else would be a tragical gathering.:rotfl:

We've done immediate family (meaning DH, myself and DS8) and have enjoyed them.

In December, my mom and brother will be joining us for a Disney vacation. We're all looking forward to it. DS8 and my mom are very close.

Any vacation is great with me. I've done all of the above. I love having others around. Sometimes my DH will not want to do some things and it is nice for me just to go ahead and go with others. We have just started traveling with some friends and that has been great too! I just hope for many more vacations:goodvibes

For the most part, immediate family only.
Our little family works well together and DH & I are usually on the same page about everything. I'm sure it's selfish but adding another adult's preferences and input just makes things less enjoyable for us. We're constantly worrying about their wants and feeling that we're sacrificing the things we really want to do.

Two trips ago we had MIL join us for 4 of 12 days at Disney and I don't think that DH will ever agree to that again. :guilty:

My siblings would like to do a big family Disney trip and I know DH & I seem evil, but we will not do it. If they really all want to go at the same time we would let them all tour together and we would meet up with them a few times for a meal or something. That's about all the compromise we would be willing to make.

However... my parents came with us last trip. Two weeks plus all 7 of us in one vehicle for the 23 hour drive (each way). :scared1: I was a bit worried, but it actually was a great trip and everyone had a wonderful time. We've even discussed other ideas for trips we'd like to take with them.

We have taken all kinds of vacations...just dh and I; just me and the kids; just the 5 of us; the 5 of us and both grandmothers and a grandpa; and traveled with our "baseball" families (including to WDW and renting a house with other families). We are pretty low-key and go with the flow, so there really hasn't been many issues that I can recall. I voted "any vacation."

I don't mind extended family as long as my FIL isn't along. His presence ruins everything for me. Have never done one with friends, but was invited this summer by our new neighbors. Not sure we will go this year, but probably would go next year if invited.
