vacation package or hotel only...please advise

we are planning a trip to wdw in october..waiting for october codes to come out but thought i might ought to go and book room only..here is where i need clarification..
1. can i book hotel room only now and when codes come out rebook at lower rate?
2. if i can do the above can i then add magic your way with the dining plan?
or do i have to turn my ressie into a vacation package in which i wouldn't
i would not get the reduced rate anyway.

I am almost positive that you can book it now and just have the new rate applied to your ressie when the codes come out. I booked AAA room only but could not find my AAA card when I made the ressie. They told me I could book at the regular rate and call back with my AAA card and get the new rate applied to this ressie.

As far as the tickets and dining plan, you can only get the dining plan with a package.

To further clarify the Dining Plan option, it is only available with a package. The components of the package include a room at rack rate (no discounts) and at least a 1 day Base Ticket for every member of your party.
So although you can turn a room only ressie into a package, if you want to add the Dining plan you will loose your room discount
