Vacation ideas needed

How about this?

http://www.mohonk.com/

DH and I spent the night in Fishkill NY and went in for the day. We had brunch reservations which allowed us full access for the grounds and the mountain house. The hiking trails were great and there were all kinds of other activities happening. New Paltz seemed like a fun artsy town. Would you want o spend part of your time here and then the remaining in New York City?

Oh we LOVE Mohonk but holy canoli that place has gotten way nuts on price(and the food isn't great by any means. But the location! OH it is heavenly. Truly a place that you can unwind and step back in time.

I also thought about the White Mountains in NH. Isn't there a huge historical resort there? Too bad you can drive a little further because you can;t go wrong with Disney's Hilton Head Resort in South Carolina.

You're probably thinking of the Mount Washington Resort - which is beautiful.

I live in New England - and I wouldn't be heading this way, or any place north in March - especially if you want to spend anytime outside. Spring comes late to the Northeast. :cold:

The Greenbrier is amazing. Similar, and not far from that is The Homestead. Both have plenty of things to keep parents and children happy. I favor the Greenbrier, but both are lovely.

I agree it is beautiful there. But it is not really a family resort. And the driving is tricky around there in the winter.

One more to think about, the Hyatt resort on Maryland's eastern shore.

I think we have a winner. :thumbsup2 Looks great and the distance is very doable. We can even stop on the way home in Baltimore Inner Harbor for a night.

Thanks

Hooray! A friend did that for Spring Break and LOVED it. SHe is very picky and had nothing but stellar things to say.:)

That place looks very nice!!! Glad you mentioned it. DH and I were looking for a place to go in May, Eastern Shore to be exact. This place fits the bill. I will have to show it to him when he gets home.

My cousin just went to Smuggler's Notch last summer and loved it so much she bought a time share!!! She has 3 young children. A friend of mine also went last year and loved it as well...she has 4 kids.

I was there skiing, probably 15 years ago and, yes, it was a party scene, but it is family oriented now.

Have fun!

PS: We are in NJ too!
