V & A Reservation Question?

I've noticed that V & A has availability during the week most days around this time of year. We're not going for another year, so I'm just wondering if it's necessary to reserve at the crack of dawn right at our 180 day mark? I'm referring to the regular dining rm - not the Queen Victoria Room or the Chef's Table.
Does V & A reserve tables based on the date/time they're reserved? (I'm thinking of HDDR where the first to reserve gets the first table in the front of the stage, the second gets the next one in line, etc.) Or are all tables prime spots? I'm pretty sure they are, but we've never had the pleasure of dining there and just checking. We'll be in seventh heaven just to be there!
Thanks!
