I have been planning mine and my fiance to be's first trip to disney world. it had always been a dream for her to go but was never possible. I found out from a lot of people that she has dreamed of being proposed to their but not something too "disney". With importance on romance and I would think "wow' factor. Right now i have made reservations at queen victoria room and was thinking about booking the grand 1 yacht after the dinner.

Also we are planning to stay in the grande floridian but their is the sugar bay loaf club level available for $75 more each night. We have already booked breakfast for character dining so we would not be eating in the club room. The main reason I am thinking about this upgrade is to have the concierge available to me to plan out the proposal. Would this beneficial and a cost saver or would it make more sense to contact disney engagements and work with them. Also any idea of pricing on how much is would cost.

For the dinner I was looking for something beyond a simple metal platter with a ring in it. Would this be possible in the queen victoria room. Also is the seating adequetly seperated or could I perhaps contact them for a more intimate area. I don't think the chef's room would be a viable option because of the kitchen, lack of music and constant interaction with the chef. The main reason I would have dinner in v&a first is because my gf isn't a foody per say but loves food in general.(ironically she is 5ft 110 pounds). Also because of the intimate and turn of the century (titanic style) theme. However how long would this dinner be? If we went at 5 would we be able to make it at 9 for illuminations.

Finally I was thinking about capping of the night with an hour cruise on the grand 1 yacht. Their is no wishes playing this night, however their is the illuminations fireworks. Is it possible to watch this from the grand1 yacht. A smaller boat isnt really an option because we rather enjoy our privacy.

Any other ideas would be appreaciated. With the emphasis on intamacy, romance and the wow factor. Also in your opinion would it be better to propose at V&a or on the cruise. Thanks for any help in advance.

thx. however if no fireworks can be seen from the yacht that night would it still a interesting voyage if we were to eat before hand, or would we be simple stairing at the water?

Disney engagements is not a department that helps you get engaged. It's really more of a marketing concept. So in this case, I'd say that using the help of the concierge would be a better bet.

If your gf isn't a foodie and you don't want to propose some place as public as V&As AND there are no fireworks that night, I suggest working with Private Dining at the Grand Floridian to set up a private meal somewhere at the Grand Floridian—they have indoor and outdoor spaces, and it would be just the two of you, plus a server, and you could add the services of a butler to escort you to the location and serve you and generally make a big fuss over you.

Check out this thread, which goes into great detail about how to set up a private meal at the Grand Floridian: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2094394

I can't believe there won't be *any* fireworks at the MK that night—is your visit during the Halloween or Christmas party? Because even though they don't show Wishes on those nights, they do show an even better fireworks display just for the party, usually around 9:30pm.

i will be their on sept 10-12 only 2 nights. I will be returning later on in the year for a full on disney world vacation. Since we are going to be in orlando for 3 days anyways. the next time we will be in disney world will be with families so we wont really get a chance to get away.

i checked a schedule and it says only epcot has illuminations fireworks. those however wont be able to be seen from the grand 1 yacht. also is their another parade like show on the water? I think ive read about it somewhere.

Also question about the concierge. Will they simply make reservations and bookings or will they also be able to make a little disney magic happen.

thx for all the help so far!!

Honestly I wouldn't spend the extra money at the sugar loaf because if you are not going to take advantage of the food and alcohol then there is no point. I have stayed there and the other rooms at the grand are just as nice. I would call the help desk and see if they would help you out. My experience with the concierge is that they don't do anything that extra special. They will print out directions for you, but thats about it. The only difference between them and the front desk reservations is that you don't have to wait in line and you get to sit in a chair, lol.

I think you should get private dessert and champagne to be served on the yacht and then propose there. It is unlikely that there wont be any fireworks and even if there isn't you will still have a beautiful moment together on the boat. Then you should contact disney floral and get them to decorate your room while you are on the yacht so when you get home you will have rose petals and all that romantic jazz! either way, congrats!

here is the floral and gifts website that shows options for "in room celebrations"

There are no MK fireworks on the 10th and 11th due to Night of Joy. The Electric Water pageant happens at 10:25pm on the lake. There are Wishes fireworks on the 12th at 9pm.

i wouldn't plan your engagement around the water parade, it is pretty lame.

so not lame!!! so cute!!! just not cool and special in a romantic, grand, *wishes*!!! kinda way!!

thant said, if you eat at V&A be prepared to be stuffed to the gills and you will be there at least 3 hours probably. unlikely you feel frisky to run through the parks after, but you are younger than i....

the yacht idea is smashing and staying at the GF is a romatic thing as well - i agree the concierge might not be necessary if you won't be in the room and eating there tons and i can promise you that between the boards and contacting disney and the hotel jsut through regular ways, i am sure you can make loads of magic and not have to pay extra for it?

maybe go to V&A the next day if it is something you really really want to do.

personally, i thought getting engaged at epcot/france at the restaurant with remy there would be so cool! have remy wheeled over if possible to be somehow holding the ring under his tray! (chef's de france)

there are so many magical things to do - have a wonderful time and congrats!!!

sorry samby, it is lame for someone who is not a die hard disney fanatic. Don't get me wrong I love it because it never changes and brings back fond memories of being a kid in disney with my mom and dad at the contemporary watching the water parade every night. But if you are not that into disney and are a first timer looking for something over the top to propose with, then its lame. okay, sorry to hijack, i had to clear that up. ;)

My DF and I stayed at Poly when we got engaged and the conceirge desk helped him out a lot. Well worth the price. They decorated the room for us too! It was so romantic and so much fun. The only problem I could see doing it on the yacht would be the weather...it is Florida and it is so unpredictable. Even if they say it won't rain, it usually does. There are so many areas around the resorts that are romantic. For a little date night, my DF and I sat on top of sunset point with a blanket, candles(battery ones), champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries, which was so nice. There might be other people around but it is still special. You could always go on a walk and end up in front of the wedding pavilion and pop the question there too. Sounds cheezy but it could work. Good luck with your proposal!! Let us know how it goes.:thumbsup2

hey thx for all the great idea's. Their is really a wealth of information on these boards.
but im a little confused as to who to call and talk to this about. I haven't called the hotel because I'm still having conflicting thaughts about the club level room. Would the service and help I recieve be different if I booked a simple garden view versus booking a room in the SL bulding. Also if i do decide to book a garden view should I contact the manager of the hotel or help desk?

my idea right now is to eat at v&a then (praying the weather is fine) either propose before the yacht ride or on.

However would it make more sense to call the hotel directly or restaurant and yacht people. Ive also been reading about third party companies that will help design your proposal but since I will be doing it in the yacht or possiblly the wedding chappel area would they be able to do anything at all. i would like to avoid working with them and work directly with the hotel.

Last but not least the ring. Where should I keep it. I would have a heart attack simply leaving it in my bag, and it would be easily seen in the safe. Is their a way to get a second safe into the room that would go un noticed and unused. Or would it be smarter to have the ring put in a hotel safe.(assuming their is one).

Also are their any emails i can contact the hotel through to ask them about this. I would call but thats not possible with the girlfriend around.

Thanks for all the help so far. :)

I would contact the grand floridian directly and dont tell them you are concidering booking the Sugar Loaf. Just say that you are staying with them at the garden view room and want to plan a proposal to your girl friend and see how it goes.

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/grand-floridian-resort-and-spa/

go there on the left hand side there will be a link that says "contact us" where you give them your info via email and just put in your situation and that you want to do all this through email and im sure disney will help you out.

and again, in my experience staying in the sugar loaf building and in the garden view building, I would not pay the extra money if you are not taking advantage of the food and alcohol. The concierge does exactly what the help desk in the lobby does. They can help you out with all your planning too. Bottom line is it's Disney you will get excellent service no matter if you are at an all Star resort or the Grand Floridian suit. It doesn't matter. I would spend that extra money on flowers or something. And as far as the ring goes. I would put it in your carry on, thats what my husband did and had no trouble. Then I would put it in the safe.

here is the info page about booking the yacht too

It was my DF birthday the weekend he proposed and my mom had the ring in a birthday bag, but she put so much paper around it that it wouldn't sound like there was anything in the bag. She told me it was Disney dollars for the weekend. So, I actually had the bag packed in my suitcase and brought it on the boat. Boy was I clueless. Maybe there is something you can do with the ring, tell her it's a just because gift that you want to give it to her on the boat. Or you could put it in a camera case, depending on how the case is. That way if you do propose on the yacht, the driver could take pictures when you do propose. That was what we did. Hope these suggestions help. I know you will get so many on the boards. We are all full of idea:goodvibes. Any way you propose, it will be so special and memorable for the both of you.

that sounds amazing decdisney! i wish you and ur df all the best.
She thinks this is a trip for our 3rd anniversary dating and as we usually get little trinkets for each other she wont suspect a thing if i change the size and shape! thx i didnt even think of disguising it like that.

I sent the disney people an email and was just wondering how long to wait for a reply before sending another one off or sneaking out to make a phone call?

Any luck with getting a response back from Disney? If you don't hear from them by today, I would definitely give them a call if you haven't already done so. Who did you send the email to?? I would either call the wedding pavilion or grand fla and ask to speak with conceirge service.

No luck as of yet, after 3 emails... Ill probably just give the gf a call tomorow and see what they say.

I agree with not upgrading. Clearly not worth it. Could you rent a boat to take you on the lake at Epcot instead of the Yacht??
