I know that V&A requires a sportscoat be worn but would it be out of place to wear a blazer made from denim? :confused3

I think it would be out of place. Figure on fairly conservative business attire for men. Until recently a tie was required.

Very, VERY technically it would probably meet the code--but personally I think it would look out of place.
I am thinking "denim" would look like a jeans-type jacket(??)

When you say denim, is it powder blue or does it look like dark blue jeans.... I think if it is a sports jacket, suit jacket cut, and they are wearing nice pants, not jeans, with a button down shirt....why wouldn't it be ok??

I am a casual person so would that mean if you were to wear a madras sports jacket, which is casual as well, it would not be appropriate..

I know its not a standard blazer material but I am a large guy and have not been able to find a jacket my size found this line of blazers and thought that maybe these would do it is actually a light tan color for the denim its not your standard bluejeans color blue. Just trying to see what I can do without spending hundreds of dollars for a jacket to wear to one dinner on one night not sure if V&A is worth that kind of cash :surfweb:

V&A does offer complimentary "loaner" dinner jackets if you don't have one that is acceptable. So, you can wear the denim one and if they say anything you can borrow one of theirs.

Another question here, I have an adr for 9/23 as a solo female would a trouser suit with jacket be ok or do they stipulate dresses or skirts for females?

We went there in early August, and I wore a long black dress with black sandals, I thought that i would be soooo overdressed, I was not, we say quite a few man in tux and women with gowns on, it really is a lovely dinner, and it feels confortable to be really well dressed there.

You will be fine. I almost always wear a dressy pantsuit to V&A.

gokenin, I think you'll be fine with that jacket too. At first I was picturing blue denim and I agree with others that while it might fit the dress code, it would look out of place. But a tan one won't IMHO. Bon apetit everyone. :sunny:

BTW, ties have always been optional for gentlemen.

You'll be fine. I've seen that exact "type" of jacket on male diners at V&A's. Is it something along the lines of a "professors jacket"? You know, the type you typically see worn by male college proffs?

hello, I got a call back last night from V&A although they didnt say that it was forbidden they did comment that they do require dress pants, dress shoes and dress shirts so the hint was that it would be frowned upon and was told that they had a loaner jacket if I was unable to have one so would say that its not a smart move to wear it. ahh well guess that means no V&A for me will just have to settle for the Cali-Grill

Thanks for confirming for me about the ties BVC, I was about to ask, that is what I thought as well.

I was wondering...Is underwear required? I mean if I go 'commando' is it still my own business or will it bother the people at the table next to me (you know, no visible underwear lines and all)? How about bra's for the ladies? If they air condition the restaurant a little too much will the possible result bother other patrons? How about disgusting sayings on my undershirt? No one will see it but I'll know it's there and I know it's technically against the rules to wear this kind of shirt. :confused3 Oh man, I'm so distraught over this plus I know when I get there it'll be up to me judge how everyone else is dressed BEFORE I can have a nice meal or not, as the case may be. Oh, the pressure... ;)

Why don't you just bring you denim jacket and plan on using a loaner jacket, if they have one that fits?

You can go to a place like Marshalls and buy dress pants and a shirt for a fraction of the cost of your meal.

I have seen jackets at JCPennys and even Target. Granted, it isn't the nicest jacket, but it is under $100 and would fit the dress code.

A lot of places currently have summer weight sport coats on clearance. Just found nice ones at Kohl's for $60 (and had a 20% coupon :thumbsup2 ).

Not sure if they carry large sizes but our Mens Wearhouse has some items on sale/clearance also. Just keep an eye out. If you don't plan to wear it often, it doesn't have to be a perfect style for you.

I would do whatever I could to get that V&A experience. It really is worth it.
