Have to say that watching the politicians & echo chambers gear up to use this as a jumping off point is completely alienating. It feels like we're being redirected & there is work to be done outside of the menu/talking points that go back my entire life, it's almost a script that goes: "Your side says this - my side says that = everyone screams at each other and just gives up."

Enough already with this, time for new blood, new names, new ideas - I'm simply not listening to ancient dialogues anymore no matter what the marketing package looks like. I want things better so leaders need to do better than cart out old arguments that run in circles, I want them to start a new thread of thought...

The shooter supposedly dropped out of school during the shutdowns of cv-19, is this more fallout of students that were so isolated? This is truly a tragedy all the way around.

So many lives needlessly lost, so many potential leaders and future heroes senselessly lost. The pictures that I have seen of the beautiful little children that are now gone before they even had a chance to live their lives. So sad, I just can't imagine how the families and friends of those lost children and teachers must feel today.

Yes it's probably Covid related.

External doors and classroom doors were supposed to be locked per the policy that has been released. Were they?

the classrooms should all have had deadbolts on the doors.

The idea to be able to walk in to a gun store on your 18th birthday and buy two AR15's along with 375 of military grade rounds, without a permit or background check, boggles my mind. And then bring all that along with your new body armor to the next massacre.

This was my thought, my most recent job was as a school secretary (on disability now) so I ran everything & got a ton of pushback from entitled parents who wanted to breeze through the process because they are special. Some administrators do cave to the pressure, they want to be liked, but I came from an abusive home and know full well not all parents and staff tell a school when there is a domestic situation so I simply would not bend. Really, the school secretary or business receptionist/security guards should be the FIRST people you tell but often are not, I can tell you though that families who did have such issues were very grateful. I had a list of family custody situations I shared with the nurse, the nurse messed up once when I was on break, it wasn't a big deal it was just she called someone on an off day, but it was wrong. However, having random substitutes in who covered me would make me very anxious and I often wondered why no facial recognition was being used at the doors of schools, it wouldn't do better than me but it would or could help with substitutes.

The doorways need to be secured all the time for domestic situations, this would prevent this sort of thing as well or at least allow someone at the door to call for help faster.

Very sad situation.

The person was a drop out with no purpose. As a teacher, that is the scariest type of person.

As a teacher, I know our school is on constant lookout and a SRO on campus.

I heard he was making public posts about his intentions, how in the world was this missed?

Are you going to lock people into grocery stores and churches?

ETA - I do agree that people should not be able to freely enter schools during the day. Just have one door open by the office or something.
