UTI and Cipro..scared to take it?!

Been having UTI symptoms for s couple weeks off and on and just feeling lousy (almost fluish..extremely tired, really nauseous, blurry vision with headaches and eye pressure..this could also be seasonal allergies) went to my Dr this morning, he did a urine test and said I have a UTI! He is also sending it to be cultured, don't think that will be back until Monday. In the meantime, he called in Cipro. After reading the side effects and reviews I'm really scared to take it! My main concern is the tendon and joint problems (I already have tendion issues in the back left foot) . I was thinking about seeing if he would call something else in, but don't want to be annoying and ask him. I also thought about trying some natural things first?!

Anyone taken this and had any problems, etc?

That is on my NO list with EDS, and other issues.
How difficult would it be to call in to his secretary for something else?

If you're that anxious about it, maybe you should talk to your doctor about giving you something else. Once you start it, you have to finish all of it.

But to answer your question, yes, my DH and I have taken it, and I've given it to hundreds of patients without a problem.

All medications have side effects. Unless you have a known allergy or know you have a bad reaction, I would trust your doctor. Cipro is just a wide spectrum antibiotic. The side effects of weeks with an untreated UTI can be more severe and land you in the hospital.
Stock up on yogurt.

Never had a problem and the side effects here are WAY less of a concern than your symptoms! As a previous poster said, you have to take it ALL, not just until you start feeling better.

The side effects of allowing a UTI to spread to your kidneys is far worse than from taking the Cipro. Take it. If you start experiencing side effects, call your doctor. ALL antibiotics have side effects. In the future, just don't read about them. Take the medicine and if you start having issues, THEN look at the pamphlet.

Take it. You wouldn't want the infection to get worse.

The problem is most antibiotics are going to have the same list of side effects as Cipro. The difference is that Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic, so it will usually treat any bacteria. You can start treatment prior to having you culture results back.

I'd suggest you try it and then call if you have side effects.

When you are in the office and your doctor writes you a prescription, ask questions then. Ask what are the side effects? Why did you choose this medication? And so on. Don't go home and Google.

I just finished taking 7 days of Cipro for a uti. I already have neuropathy from chemotherapy, but so no issues from the Cipro.

Just so you can see how other meds compare look up Levaquin, Bactrim, Macrobid and read their side effects. I have recurrent UTI's and those are the three main meds I have been given along with Cipro and another one I cannot remember that I needed to be switched to after my culture came back. If you are still concerned call now and ask to be put on something else but don't delay.

Taken it a few times, never any problems. ITA the risk from the UTI could be worse than any side effects

Call your doc if you're concerned, but I'd take it if your only concern are those rare side effects. The long-term risks of not treating a UTI are a bigger concern.

Call your doctor if you are concerned...that is what he is paid to do, or call the pharmacist and asked questions, that is what they are paid to do. I never understand the hesitancy to call.

I have taken Cipro and had no problems except the stomach issues most get from antibiotics. So I eat lots of yogurt or take yogurt pills.

Now my mom had an allergic reaction to Levaquin that she took for a UTI, so you may have a reaction but most likely you will not and it is better than leaving the UTI untreated
