USPS Tracking

For giggles, I just checked the tracking on an amazon item i had bought (with Prime) as a secret santa gift for my sister that was due for delivery around Dec 1st. When it didn't show up by the 14th we were offered a full refund...which we got. I just peaked at the tracking for it and it's made to NJ which is surprisingly close to it's Long island final destination. I already bought a replacement...and I am gonna be PISSED if it shows up at my sister's house and she opens it thinking it's something SHE ordered and it ruins the gift.

I am still waiting on one other Amazon item that was "guaranteed delivery before Christimas" which now shows arrival on the 26th. It was ordered in November.

OOh! Also, if you are tracking a package that is scanned into BUTNER, NC...just abandon hope. You're not getting it in time....possibly ever. It's the black hole where packages go to die.

My dad also has a package he is waiting on that was guaranteed delivery before Christmas from another company that shows arrival on the 26th. It was shipped on December 15th, but sat at a USPS facility for 5 days with tracking showing "Shipment Received, Package Acceptance Pending." It was finally accepted yesterday at the same facility and started moving.

Mine has disappeared into the Charlotte abyss. I would say maybe it’s a NC thing but I’m seeing too many similar reports from other parts of the country.

Oh my word, I can truly attest to this!! I have been refunded on multiple packages that get lost in this void. I eventually got the packages, weeks and weeks later. And this was outside of the holidays!

My sister has sent a package from Vermont to NC this year. She mailed it on the 12th. Today is the 21st and has not yet arrived. I tracked it and it went from Vermont immediately and has sat in a postal location in New York City until the 19th before it started moving again. It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow morning the 22nd. Six days not moving from NYC. I don't know if it had a chance to see Hamilton on Broadway, tour the Statue of Liberty or spent some time in Central park. Whatever, once it left that spot in NY it did seem to move much faster. Something is happening because even my medications that are sent out from 12 miles up the road are taking over a week to get here. I could crawl on my hands and knees from there to here in less time then that. I suppose the being the Christmas season and considering that Covid has affected the Postal service staffing plus more people order stuff on line that is being sent USPS that might have a little to do with it.

My wife wanted to send a package to her brother. We had a few options including FexEx Ground or USPS (Prioirity Mail or Retail Ground). Both said expected delivery time if sent today was Dec 24 when I checked online. It still says that even though it's past the 6 PM FedEx Ground daily pickup time. The price wasn't quite the same, but I couldn't quite weight the box since it was more than the scale's limit. I guess I could have weighed pieces separately.

When we got there, she was told that it would be about $80 to get there by Christmas. But about $20 for regular ground where they estimated it would get there next week. We figure it wasn't worth it and just went for the cheapest. I guess they won't care if it's a little bit late. We're sending them goodies that are kind of hard to find (and/or very expensive) near where they live.

The other thing was that FedEx Office location had a 3-person limit other than employees. So everyone else waited outside. It was taking a lot of time too.

Not sure if USPS would have been any better. They have flat rate boxes, but we didn't go grab them in advance to see if all the stuff would fit. My wife reused an old box and everything barely fit. I guess the other nice thing about FedEx Office was that they had no problem taping up the top. They also covered up a hazardous materials label - as she had ordered something with flammable perfume shipped in the same box.

Took a package to the post office Friday, 12/11, in NJ with a destination of Florida. We paid a little extra for 3 day delivery, not guaranteed but told it would be close. Just tracked it and it left NJ Friday, went to Albany, NY, Southern CT and now in MA. Ugh.

Update: From MA the package went to Jacksonville, FL, yay it made it to the state it needed to go. Then it went to Louisiana, back to Jacksonville and finally Gainseville, FL and the package was finally delivered today.

Speaking to my dad, he had his medicine shipped 12/8, 2 day delivery and he received it today. He was getting nervous as he was running low.

USPS called me this morning to let me know the package I opened a case about would be arriving today. The tracking also updated to reflect that it was out for delivery. It did not get delivered, nor did the four other packages that were due to arrive today, nor did any of our mail. We got nothing. :rolleyes2

The item I sent out Priority mail on Friday was scheduled to arrive by 9pm tonight. I just refreshed the tracker page and now it says "Your package will arrive later than expected" and no longer has today's date (or any date) listed for delivery.

The USPS package I have been waiting since November for DH finally moved from Michigan to Indianapolis today...not helpful since we are in NC, and still says delivery on the 26th (despite the guaranteed by Christmas lie when I ordered it).

The Christmas CARD I mailed last week for my nephew from NC to NY still hasn't arrived.

The FedEx package DH mailed THIS MORNING for me is scheduled to arrive tomorrow in Atlanta. They have their shtuff together!

FedEx actually guarantees published service time - at least normally they would. They seem to have suspended the money back guarantee because of COVID.

Once I ordered something online and they were shipped FedEx 3rd day, which was the cheapest option. And when they said 3rd day they meant it. It was shipped from a location maybe 100 miles away and the tracking info said it was at a local FedEx facility the next day. But they held it there and wouldn't release it until the 3rd day.

But FedEx Ground is really a different service. It's a lot cheaper (and slower) to send stuff only by truck.

From an article my cousin sent me. It looks
doubtful the packages I sent will be there before Christmas.

“Competing crises are slamming the U.S. Postal Service just days before Christmas, imperiling the delivery of millions of packages, as the agency contends with spiking coronavirus cases in its workforce, unprecedented volumes of e-commerce orders and the continuing fallout from a hobbled cost-cutting program launched by the postmaster general.

Nearly 19,000 of the agency’s 644,000 workers have called in sick or are isolating because of the virus, according to the American Postal Workers Union. Meanwhile, packages have stacked up inside some postal facilities, leading employees to push them aside to create narrow walkways on shop floors.

Some processing plants are now refusing to accept new mail shipments. The backlogs are so pronounced that some managers have reached out to colleagues in hopes of diverting mail shipments to nearby facilities. But often, those places are full, too. Meanwhile, packages sit on trucks for days waiting for floor space to open so the loads can be sorted.”

It took 14 days and was ten days late, but my package has arrived. I'm wondering if the fact I signed up for updates on Friday had anything to do with the package finally moving out of limbo where it sat since 12/7?
I don't think so, as I sign up for updates for every package,,and mine still haven't shown up
On the other hand, I ordered 2 things from Amazon on Sunday, they shipped yesterday and are supposed to be here tomorrow..so we will see!

I sent a 8 x 10 envelope priority mail from NJ to NC last Monday. It has been sitting in Greensboro for 5 days, 40 minutes travel time from its final destination.

I also have a package I ordered from India (yeah, I know) that was ordered Nov. 29, finally shipped FedEx on Dec. 11 and has been sitting in New Delhi since Dec. 16. Not holding my breath. At least it was ordered through Amazon, so I know I can get a refund if it does not ever get here.

Guess I can join the club of people with packages sitting in no man's land. Ordered a gift for my parents off of Etsy. It shipped out of High Point, OH on 12/14 via Priority Mail. There was no sign of the package until yesterday afternoon. It was scanned in Columbus, OH. It took 8 days to go 90 miles. Really? And now it appears it is sitting in Columbus and not moving again. This is going to end up being a Valentine's Day gift before long.

I got an email from Etsy asking to rate the item that was shipped on the 13th. If I every get the item, I'll be sure to let them know. It seems stuck in one spot for 5 days.

But the train tracks we ordered on Nov 30 and was shipped Dec 3, we should get it today.......fingers crossed.

I'm an Etsy seller, and I currently have over 100 packages that I mailed promptly to my customers just sitting in USPS limbo. Some packages that I mailed in late November still show that they are in transit, arriving late. It's really frustrating because I know I'm going to get a lot of negative reviews over something that's beyond my control.

I've got 5 purchases that I made from other Etsy shops, and all of those are also delayed.

We have a package that shows "Delivered, Garage or Other Location at Address" this morning, but we don't have the package. We checked near the garage door, front door/porch, back gate, and there is no package. Hopefully we will get it! We have sent a message to some of our neighbors to see if any of them got it. We've only been in this house for a couple of months, and I don't know if it is common for packages here to be delivered to the wrong address.

Ordered from shop Disney 11-21, tracking states its been at my local post office since 12-3.
Ordered an item 100 miles south from me in Maryland 1 week ago (usps Priority mail) - that somehow wound up in Tampa on Monday, now Orlando yesterday. Only 1000 miles to go.....
Sent an item from PA to Wisconsin usps Priority last Friday, that item is now parked in.... Florida.
