Using TS credits for QS Meals

We are going on our next trip to the World Sept. 6 -13. My MIL, FIL and two nephews are joining us. We are both booked in Standard POP rooms with FD. I chose to upgrade to reg. FD; however MIL did not. She and FIL have recently been placed with a foster child whom they are more than likely going to be adopting and she will be joining us as well. Since MIL is at full occupancy in their room at POP, I offered to add the child to our reservation since there are only three of us (DH, DD and myself). I understand that she will have upgraded FD since we added her to our package, but can she use her 7 TS credits for QS meals? I know that this devalues the upgrade, but MIL and family are doing all QS and I am sure that the child will want to do all of her meals with them. I was pretty certain that she could but when I mentioned it to the CM he told me that I absolutely could not. I asked to be transferred to dining where a CM checked with a supervisor who said it could be done but QS credits couldn't be used for TS meals...which I knew.

DISCLAIMER: There is extensive discussion on the boards about exceeding room occupancy, it's there for a reason, etc. I will disregard since that's not your question about what you should do re: room reservations and this post is in the Dining Plan board.

With that said....

Yes you can use a TS credit for QS credit. It will be a 1 for 1 trade, so 1 TS kids credit can be downgraded for 1 QS kids meal, no extras for diminishing the value of the credit. We had a leftover TS credit on our last trip bc my ds wasn't hungry when everyone else was so didn't order anything and I had that 1 odd credit left, I used it for a QS meal for him the following day.

Where does the OP say anything about exceeding the room occupancy? She is booking the extra child in her room with no mention at all of where each child will sleep. Confused...

I'm confused as well. MIL’s room has four occupants: herself, FIL and our two nephews. Since we will also be bringing along their foster child DH and I added her to our package/reservation since we only had three occupants. Max occupancy at POP is four per room and we each have four people per room, so I don’t see what it is that we are exceeding??? The foster child is in kinship placement and is a family member whom we all know and she will be sleeping in our room with my DD (5). Maybe you insinuated that we simply added her to our package and my MIL is still going to “sneak” her into their room??? That’s not the case. I was simply asking about how the dining plan would work since she is added to our plan and will have reg. dining and they will have QS dining :confused3

Your MIL will need to use her foster child's MB for her meals because your MIL's will indicate there are 4 on her reservation. She will not be able to deduct 5 meals at a time from her own band. The only potential snag I can see is TS credits can be used for CS only after all the CS credits are used up. However, because she is on your room reservation it may be possible that CS cashiers will want to continue deducting CS credits even though she may have used up her "share" of the CS credits because all dining credits are pooled to the room and not to individuals.

Thank you. This makes since. MIL has decided to just upgrade to the regular dining plan to make things easier. It originally was not in her budget to upgrade, but we have offered to help with the cost as I don't want to run into any snags. We are dining together for the most part, with the exception of one meal (I think) and I know that the foster child will have to use her own MB for dining when/if I am not present as she is on our plan/ressie and not my MIL’s. I’m glad that we’ve worked everything out. Thank you for your help.

I assumed that since you said the foster child would be eating with them that meant all day touring with them which to me translated to sleeping with them too. Sorry.

Yes you can use the credits but as someone mentioned, your child's CS credit would deduct for the foster child before a child TS credit would deduct to be used as a CS. Glad they decided to upgrade now too, easier all around.
