Hi

I have heard a rumour that in some states it is illegal to have a sat nav that attaches to the windscreen (rather than the air vent or something I assume?).

Does anyone know if this is true and whether Florida is one of those states?

I must admit I have never heard of this before and can't think of any particular reason why it would be the case. As long as the sat nav isn't in direct line of sight and obstructing your view I cant see an issue - but then I don't make the rules :goodvibes
We have taken a sat nav the last 3 times we have been and use one of THESE. It easy to store and pack away - and doesn't leave the tell tale mark on the windscreen that suggests you have something in your car worth breaking in for.

I put ours on the window too, so would be interested in hearing if Florida was one of the states concerned about placement :)

I know in some states radar detectors are illegal - when we were in the north east - Washington maybe? we crossed a state line and there were signs saying they were illegal.

Never heard you can't put sat nav on the window though.

I have heard the same thing - that it's illegal to use SatNavs on windscreens in some places (though not because their satnavs, you're not allowed to stick anything to window, presumably because they feel it can interfere with vision) but don't know if it includes Florida.

If I was to guess I'd say no because if it was I think more people would know about it on these forums and it would come up as a warning a lot (this may be flawed logic though!).

Perhaps someone who has hired a Sat Nav when they picked up their car hire would know? You'd like to think that the Rental companies would advise or perhaps they come with a holder thing to put on dash rather than one of those sucker things to stick to window.

It is true. California is a state where its illegal to have the sat nav mounted on your windscreen. The stupid thing imo is it is allowed to be mounted on your drivers window which is way more dangerous to me as I couldn't see in my mirror properly. I think we ended up with it on the vent although did look into those mats you can get that go on the dashboard and then the sat nav sits and holds on that.

In any event Florida is not one of those states and its perfectly legal to mount your sat nav on the windscreen.
