Hello All,

I am in the process of buying into DVC this week! I am so thrilled to do so. I had a quick question for anyone who can give me an answer. Here's the scenario:

We are buying 50 pts. to get us into DVC and are going to buy more once Poly comes up for sale. We are planning a trip in October with friends. I am paying for my room with points (40) and the other room they were going to pay for in cash. How do they determine how much we are going to pay for that room? I didn't want to use all my points, or bank points or anything just yet.

Thank you for all of your help!

Congrats! Where are you hoping to stay in Oct? It's a busy time to get a DVC reservation this late with the parties and F&W.

don't pay cash for the room...rent points from someone. But rent it quickly...oct is pretty much all full. Which is the other thing - are your points already in your account? You might not get the res you want for Oct if you haven't made it yet.

Are you buying resale or direct? If you are buying direct, Disney will do a one time curtesy and they will get you the room even if no rooms are showing. Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

My guess is resale, because I don't think you can buy into DVC for only 50 points if you were going direct. The resale takes time to transfer, and like others have said, DVC is popular during October (Food & Wine). You may be able to find a room here or there, but if you are looking for a very specific room (that would maximize the 40 points you are planning on spending) on a specific day, you probably won't get that.

Yes, rent points. There are several reputable resellers out there that rent points. Most charge around $14 / point, and some will discount that as the dates get close.

We stayed at OKW over the Easter weekend. I used our points for 2 nights and was able to rent the other 2 nights at $8 / pt so it was a great deal.

While not always available, DVC members can get a 25% member discount for DVC villas based on availability. These cash rooms must be reserved thru MS so be sure to check that out and compare the cost to other options.

I bought direct. They allowed me to do 50 points because the reason I did the tour and everything is to get info about buying into Poly. So in order to get first chance to buy points and at a lower per point price when Poly opens up I just went with a 50 point contract for VGF. My Vacation Club person was amazing and was such a great help!

If they have a room in developer inventory, they can do it but there's no guarantee.

Wow - you have a great guide. We've had two - one retired and we were 'picked up' by another. While both are/were nice enough neither was motivated to offer us anything extra. Hold onto that one.
