I have CBR mugs from 10 years ago. Can I still use them without any problems?

This is a VERY HOT TOPIC especially on the Budget Board.

The official Disney word on that, I guess, is that the mugs are only to be used during the stay that you purchased them.

True. But the only problems you will have in using them is on the DIS. :p

Our last vacation we saw a lady using a dixie landings mug. It was pretty funny and nobody who worked there seemed to care.

Ahh...the mug debate. Its only been a few weeks since the last one.

Karylrocks....you may have asked an innocent question....but be prepared for a wide variety of answers. My advice....sit back, relax, and strap it down. This could be fun.

Yes, the refillable mug questions have in the past turned into huge debates with people on all different sides of what is right. But I truly believe we are all adult enough to discuss this topic without fighting or debating.

It will continue to be a topic of discussion as long as Disney offers the refillable mug program

I am quite confused on this whole "mug" matter myself...

When we purchased our mugs years ago and the All Stars and the at PO....we were told they were good for refills forever at their perspective resorts....

this was about 5 years ago...

how can they now go back and renege on that statement that at least 3 people told us back then....

I think I need to write a note to WDW to see what the real scoop is.....

I can understand the confusion - many people were told this - but this was a statement from individual CMs - there has been an official statement from Disney on this and they now have signs up at many of the drink stations stating the policy.

As is the case with anything in life - times change as do policies.

To be honest I have never seen or heard of anyone being approached and told they cannot use the mug they have, does this make it right - hey I'm not here to judge you or anyone else.

I really believe each individual has to do what they think is right. And it is not my place or anyone else to judge them for that. To be honest - I have a lot more to do when at the World than to worry what kind of mug someone is using.

The only thing I think may happen is that Disney will discontrinue the refillable mug program if it is proven they are losing money because the system in place does not work.

Until a few years back, it was Purchase a refillable and use it every time you return. Now it has changed to refill during you stay at time of purchase. However, we talked to a Cm who told us that they only enforce that if one of the BIG WIG's were there. Other than that they don't bother with it. We use ours everytime we go. We don't ask, we just use them.

Refillable mugs will always be an issue. When we first bought ours at the All Stars we were told by the cast members they were good for as long as we stayed at the All Stars including returning trips. Since CM's represent Disney I have to take there word for it and thats the way we have used our All Star mugs. When we stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge we bought AKL mugs and we'll follow the policy at AKL for mugs we bought there. We just bought into SSR and if they have mugs we'll buy those too and follow there policy. On the possibility of Disney losing money on the beverages. Nope, no way, not going to happen. If they were concerned all they would have to do is stop non-resort mugs or cups being used. :scratchin

I agree TREKKER, I have seen people use old mugs.....I don't care I'm too busy having a vacation to care/ What bugs me is when I see people at the drink island filling up large thermoses and thoses big Coleman "kool-aid" containers with drinks. It only bothers me because I'm afraid if this is done a lot, Disney WILL stop making it convenient to get our drinks in the future. Just my 2 cents for what its worth:rolleyes:

Thanks for all the replies. Concerning whether they will be losing money on drinks, I believe that Disney gets Coke products for next to nothing in return for using them exclusively and for the advertising. The only thing they might be "losing money" on is people not buying more mugs (sorry for ya, Michael E. -- not!!) I will probably buy a new one anyway as a souvenir.

Because as a company Disney has a right to change their polices any time they so desire.

Re: Disney losing money and having to stop refills, I agree with you karylrocks, pop syrup costs very little even if the company has to buy it. The profit margin is astronomical on fountain drinks. When I worked at the local convenience store, we (the company) comped the whole police/sheriff's dept., any emergency response workers, and all the vendors and they still made a huge profit on fountain drinks. When customers would buy the refillable mugs, (and at a lot less than $10.95!) we would quite often comp these people as well, as the profit was really on the mug. I really doubt that Disney is losing money on this.

Somehow, I think Disney and Coke have a deeper partnership that to count the cost of corn syrup, especially since they provide soda for the entire Disney network, and they have a nice big huge soda cup symbol at the All Stars Sports.

Whether it's wrong or right to use old mugs or mugs from other resorts, when I'm at Disney, I'm on vacation and I'm certainly not going to take the time to get upset over people misusing the mugs.

Just my 2cents worth, and it's certainly only worth 2 cents IMO.

If you see me by the pool or even inside the food court with an old "music" mug or a new version "movies" mug, I DID NOT refill it there!!! I'm taking 2 mugs for DD and me, but I'll be drinking my very own brought-from-home Dr. Pepper in it. The Coke products and Dr. Pepper deprivation almost killed me last trip! Melanie

I have gotten mugs from EVERY resort. All the CMs at the time told me they were good for life. This time we are going to the Contemporary, if we can remember we will bring our mugs. Most of the time I forget and wind up buying new ones anyway.

Are you kidding? I truly hope you don't have to save $12 for each member of your party that badly.

10 years? Seriously?

Re: "Policy Change" Per Disney, there has been no policy change. The official program has always been "length of stay". However, many CMs have been telling guests the "reality" of the situation. Effectively, as it stands now, they (and anything else that'll hold liquid for that matter) are good for life at WDW resort drink islands.

As for the relationship between Disney and Coke. The "Disney network's" use of Coke pales in comparison to the amount of Coke syrup used at any number of large fastfood chains. I did some digging in some beverage industry publications awhile back and I can assure from what I read about exclusive softdrink deals, Disney ain't getting their syrup for free. The usual way such deals are structured is that for every X cases of syrup a customer buys, they get Y cases free. When Coke and Pepis fight over these large customers, the only difference is the X:Y ratio.
