Using Old Magic Bands?

The magic bands are form 2014 when we stayed onsite. In 2015, we stayed offsite but were able to link our tickets in MDE and use the bands. We are returning this September and staying offsite. Can I still use the magic bands from 2014? In MDE, the bands are listed as ACTIVE, but will they still work 3 years later? I have read on this board that the battery in it is used for things like Memory Maker and your name being recognized on rides, etc. So if this true, technically they should work for entry and for FP? Also, I know there are newer band versions out there. Will my old one still work?

What you read is true, and yes it will work for all other things.

Yes. As mesaboy stated, the bands will work at all close-range tap-points. Also, it is very possible that the battery still works. Unfortunately there is no way to know for sure until you are there and see if any of those features work for you.

One thing to note is that on some rides (7DMT, Frozen) the only way to see a ride picture is with a long-range functional Magic Band. There are no monitors to stop and tap at (though you can tap with your old MBs at any ride that has that should you want to save the picture - you can decide to purchase later). Have fun!

You should be able to use any band registered to you and still active (you'd have to deactivate it yourself so if you haven't done that, it's active) at touchpoints, indefinitely. If the battery on the long-range function has died it won't do things like send ride photos to your MDE account.

Good to know, thank you. So here's a followup question. My son went to Disney with a group 2 years ago and got another magic band. So he has 2 active bands in MDE, the one when he went with our family and the one with the group. When I link tickets in MDE, will I be able to choose which band to link to? Or do I need to deactivate one of them? I've only linked tickets the one time and we each only had one band at that time, so I'm not sure how that works.

It'll be linked to both of them and he can use either band. In my experience it gets wonky when you have more than 10 bands linked to one person (I have more than 40 and I decline them on my resort reservations now).
