I did this once before, but only had one pint of milk in it. Do you think I could keep 2 pints cold until morning if I stick them in there before we go to bed? I don't want to rent a fridge just for milk since we won't use it for anything else. I don't have a cooler to bring and am taking DME so won't be able to stop for one.

We have bought a styrofoam cooler and then just left it when we were done.

I did that for my insulin, iam diabetic. It seems to melt pretty quickly. I would fill it up in the morining and by time we came back to the room for a charge up,the ice would be melted, so i would refill it up threetimes a day, morining, afternoon and at night before bed.
A thought, Bring a soft cooler and seable plastic bags. Fill the bags up and put them into the cooler with the milk, just a thought:)

That's a good idea, I'll try that, thanks!

FYI - I do believe the provide a free fridge for medical reasons for future reference!

Another thing that we've done is if you've got a room with two sinks in the bathroom area, load up one of the sinks with ice from the ice machine and put the milk in there. You can also bring a big plastic bag (kitchen-sized bag) from home, load it with ice, place the milk (or wine!) inside, and leave it overnight in the bathtub to catch the condensation.

I bought a collapsible cooler on both our trips. Packed it in the suitcase for the flight to WDW, then used it for a carryon for the flight back home. Thank goodness I had it as I needed extra space for the souvies. I think I spent like $15 or so for it. Worked out great!!

....OR we could just take our cereal cups to the food court and eat there with fresh cold milk from the case

I'm OVERTHINKING and overplanning everything!!

I agree with a PP. We also bought a collapsible cooler. Worked great & only needed new ice about every 2 days. Just prepare for the water that will form on the outside. You might also check on a fridge swap.

Not sure that I would do this, but i have read about others who have used their trash can (lined with a clean plastic bag) then filled with ice to keep things cold as well. Personally, we use the large zip loc bags (gallon size) to keep things cold overnight, but not much longer - it won't last the day - the ice from the machines is fronzen hard like the ice from home (if that makes any sense).

When I've stayed in the value resorts I bring a small soft sided cooler, I guess its really kind of a large lunch box, for lack of a better word. I also take a few plastic grocery bags with me. Everything fits in my luggage with no problems.
I take the bag and fill it with the ice and then put it in the cooler and its kept my milk nice a cold. Generally I come back to the room in the afternoon either to relax and read or I go to the pool. When I do this, I just refill the ice and I've had really good luck with this.

My husband and I have done a lot of traveling and a lot of tent camping over the last 20 years (including a 28 day camping trip from MA to CA and back). Sometimes we've had to go a couple of days without fresh ice and one thing we learned is that as long as the water from the melted ice is cold then what's in it will still also be cold. If the ice melts overnight or during the day the milk should be okay as long as the water is still cold. So if you want to just use the ice bucket I say go ahead and do it. I would recommend making sure that the milk is completely covered in ice as IMO hotel ice machine ice tends have a lot of air pockets in it and keep topping the milk with ice especially just before you go to bed or out for the day. If the ice bucket doesn't have a cover then to help insulate I would cover it with something solid like a plate or bowl (or the phonebook ;)) and then wrap the bucket in a towel. If you do wrap in a towel just make sure you put something personal (or a note) on top so the mousekeeper doesn't try to take the towel to wash it:thumbsup2 .

Next time, tell them you need a fridge for your insulin when you make the reservation...you will get it for free. Mickey doesn't want anyone's insulin going bad...if you were sick, you couldn't spend all your money at the Park!:rotfl:

I agree with the poster who said use the trash can. We have done this in a pinch, and the advantage over the ice bucket is that you can put in a lot more ice to keep it cold because it is larger. I have added ice in the morning and then again in the evening and have not had a problem.

Buy a kids soft sided, insulated "lunch bag". Bring zip lock bags. Both squish up flat enough to be easy to pack.

Put the milk in the lunch box (it should fit 2 pints of milk...our kids do...with the "center" area empty)

Fill the zip lock with ice. Put the bag between the two cartons of milk. Zip up the "lunch bag".

We've had milk sitting around for 8 to 10 hours and it's still cold.

FYI, I just got back and I bought the big milk from the gift shop (same price as the pint from the food court), filled up the bag they put it in with ice and put it in the ice bucket. It stayed cold until morning!
