Using DW tickets at DL within 14 day expiration window

I've read that it's possible to use Disney World tickets at Disneyland if you have "unexpired" tickets.

Does anyone know if this is just if you have the "no-expiration" option added to the tickets or is it possible to use a regular unexpired ticket?

Example - I am planning a trip to Disney World and have a few days off after I return. I'm local to DL/CA and I think it would be fun to head down for a day to sort of extend my vacation. It would make me go less "park commando" while I'm in Florida knowing I can come back and ride the (IMHO) better versions of the cloned rides out here. I will still be within the 14 day window before my DW pass would expire.

As far as I know you have to have the unexpiring option added to the WDW tickets.

That's funny, Kerri; I was just going to respond the opposite. As far as I know, you go directly to the gate, they call WDW to verify your tickets are valid, and as long as they're valid at WDW, they deduct one day and give you a one-day ticket at DLR. If it's a WDW hopper, you get a DLR hopper. If not, you get a one-park ticket.

Anyway, that's the way I've always heard it. Haven't done it myself.

We just used a WDW ticket at DL last week, but ours were non-expiring, so I can't address the OP's question, but my understanding was that as long as the ticket was valid, then you could use it, so you'd be OK using an expiring ticket within 14 days of first using it at WDW.

I can tell you that we got a park-hopper ticket for DL & DCA even though our non-expiring WDW ticket didn't have park hopping added to it. I have it right in front of me, and it says "1-day park hopper replacement ticket - valid only 06/12/10" with a note lower down that says "original ticket: WDW media".

See Bob the only time I've done that was with WDW non-expiring tickets so I don't know for sure either. LOL OP maybe you should call and see what they say......

I would but, according to the Mouse Savers site - Quote: "This policy has been in effect for at least 5 years, and the information was last reconfirmed by a MouseSavers.com reader as of December 2009. Don't even bother calling Disneyland to ask about this -- the people answering the phone have no idea and they will tell you they don't take Disney World tickets."

That's why I asked here. I'm hopping that someone will have personal experience, but perhaps I'll end up as the guinea pig.

Can I ask, though, mareed (if you happen to pop back into this thread) was the process the same as GrandBob described - did they call WDW? Also, was your ticket tied to a Key to the World card or did you have a separate WDW ticket? I don't know if that would make a difference or not.

I appreciate the help so far. Thanks guys.

I would think since it is so cheap to add extra days to WDW tickets that they would have put a stop to this. Unfortunetly, unless someone posts here with first hand knowledge, you will only know if you try it.

First, we'd read that we should use them at the entry turnstile, and we'd also done that a few years ago, but we did ask at the ticket booth if it could be handled there and we were told no - to just take it to entry turnstile. We were at the park at opening and were trying to get in the gate as quickly as possible, so that's why we tried the ticket booth since there was no wait there.

Ours was an unused non-expiring separate WDW ticket. We obtained it as part of a WDW package, but we explicitly had it removed from our room keys so that it was clearly a ticket marked with the # of days it had on it. I was just too afraid of losing track of a room key and forgetting that it was in fact a 10-day non-expiring WDW park ticket! :scared1:

At the entry turnstile we told the CM there that we were using a WDW ticket, and she called back another CM that had just been there checking on something (not a regular turnstile CM). In the past, I know that the turnstile CM had to call somewhere else, and then a CM came and took our ticket. This time, the CM that she called back (verbally because they were just walking away), took our ticket away somewhere. We were going to wait off to the side outside the gate, but I had an AP that was valid that day, so she went ahead and scanned my AP and let us both through, and we waited off to the side just inside the gate. A few minutes later (I'd say less than 5), the CM came back with our ticket. He gave it to the gate CM who gave it back to us along with the 1-day park hopper ticket.

I assume that the CM who took our ticket away called WDW or somehow otherwise validated and electronically removed a day from our ticket, but I have no way of knowing for sure. We'll be using that WDW ticket at WDW over July 4th and we'll go to Guest Services there just to be sure it has the number of days expected and that 1 day (& only 1 day!) was deducted at DL.

Hope this helps!

I really think that as long as your WDW ticket is valid (either within 14 days of first use or has non-expiring option) that it should work fine at DL.

We did exactly that - use a regular WDW park Hopper that we had used the week before at WDW. We ended up not going to the parks in FLA one day, so when we got back, we went to Disneyland and used our left over day at Disneyland. No problems, no hassles. Just take your WDW ticket to the turnstyle. They'll take your ticket, come back with a ticket for the day and tell you how many days (if any) you have left on your WDW tickets.

The WDW tickets do NOT need to be non-expiring, they just need to be valid. If you could use them at WDW that day, you can use them at DLR.

Have a great trip!

Califgirl and mareed - Thanks so much for the info.

Could I ask thought, mareed - did you ever have the tickets attached to the Key to the world card? You say you had it removed. Did you do that when you checked in or after? I really like needing only the one card at WDW for room and tickets and being able to charge everything onto it. If I could keep the tickets on the Key to the World card until the last day, and have it removed after, that would work.

...Or, Califgirl, were your tickets on a Key to the World card, or did you keep them separate like mareed?

Thanks again.

Yes, our tickets were originally on our room cards. We had them removed sometime during the trip at Guest Services at one of the parks. We had AP's and weren't using them for park entry at all on that trip.

I think our tickets were separate. I think I bought our tickets and had them in hand before we got to WDW.

Thanks, that will be helpful.
