Using Air Miles for Hotels?

Hi Air Miles aficionados!

I am wondering about using air miles to secure a hotel booking in advance of our departure for a Southern Caribbean cruise, which departs from San Juan.

When I do the hotel search online, it shows NOTHING available. I have tried a number of different combinations to see if it was because I am out of date range or something, and nothing shows up.

What has been your experience in using air miles for a hotel outside Canada? How many miles does it usually take? I am wondering about the Hotel Caribe (Hilton) or Marriott Stellaris.

I have a feeling there aren't any hotels in San Juan that are available thru AM -- ever. I've tried dates throughout March - May and nothing is showing.

As a general have we used miles for hotels outside of Canada? Yes and it was super easy & very reasonable but that doesn't help you out

Well, apparently you cannot use Onyx shopping service for any travel. Boo.
