using a SW award for two one ways...

Dh's friend has told us he will let us have his soon to be expiring award since he can not use it himself. He told us he needs to have the award re-issued and he can just call up and have it done over the phone. I know it needs to be done in writing and have told him so. I even offered to take care of all of it for him, but he insisted that he can take care of it over the phone.
( I think he must be getting his frequent flyer programs confused)

So now I have our friend "working on" getting his award reissued. I have no idea how long it will take him to get on it. I am getting nervous about waiting for the award to be reissued since we are flying on a Friday of a holiday weekend (MLK Jr) and I'm worried there may be no award seats available by the time the award is reissued.

My husband is also traveling on an award. I have already booked his flight one way, but not the return yet. Can I book my daughter one way using my husbands remaining 1/2 award and then when/if our friend comes through with his reissued award use the reissued award to book two one way returns for my husband and daughter? Is that possible? That way I can guarantee my daughter gets an award seat on our flight Friday of MLK Jr weekend.

I am not so worried about the return as we can be much more flexible with our choice of flights. If our friend does not come through with the award, then I can still purchase two return flights home ~ the current sale lasting until 11/16 at $59 and still wide open.

Thanks in advance

SW RR tickets are really two one way tickets. You can, and should, do exactly what you are suggesting.

Unless something has changed you have to mail a check in order to have a RR ticket re-issued.

thanks
I wish I had thought of it earlier as I booked a flight for my daughter already as a back up plan. Hopefully my DH will use it for a business trip within the next year, but I do wish I had thought of using the award this way first :guilty:

I know that the request to reissue needs to be in writing with a check for $50, but our friend seems to think he knows better  I appreciate his offer, but at this point I wonder if I should count on it at all. He travels quite a bit for his job, and has a totally different mindset when it comes to travel planning unfortunately

Thanks again ~I'll go ahead and book the other 1/2 of the award for DD and cancel the flight I already paid for.

For anyone else reading this thread---Frequently the fare will be lower for one leg of your trip. Anytime you don't have enough RR tickets--two passengers and only one ticket--use your RR ticket for both passengers for the more expensive part of your trip. Works great if you wind up with a DING fare for the part of your trip your paying for.

Why don't you call SW and make sure that's the current procedure. If it is try to get the information from his expired ticket, draft the letter, write the check and ask him to sign it.
