Use year question

We're considering purchasing resale and primarily our holidays will be taken in January or ocassionally February. We'd also like to go once in October to experience MNSSHP.

The use year thing has been driving me mad - so can anyone advise on what would be the best UY for us? We are planners that will almost always book holidays/flights at least 10/11 months in advance.

TIA

Claire

An October use year seems to make sense. That way all of the months you plan to travel are in the first six months of the use year. That way in case you have to cancel, you will still be able to bank your points (you can bank 100% in the first 6 months).

Use year has nothing to do with when you can make a reservation. You can always do that 11 months in advance if you will have points at the time of the reservation. Use year onjly matters if you cancel at the last minute. For example if you had a October use year and in August cancelled a trip that was in September, you would only have until the end of September to use the points.

Personally I don't think use year matters at all. How many of us will have the same travel patterns today as we will in 30 years?

HBC is correct in that your travel patterns might look like that for the next several years, but what about the 30 years after that?

Still, you are more likely to make the error of late cancellations early on in your DVC life, so if you have a choice, I'd say October or December would make the most sense for you.

As HBC also pointed out, UY has nothing to do with when you can reserve a villa. It really comes into play mostly in cases of cancelling trips, especially within 30 days of travel.

Claire...it sounds like you are a prime candidate for DVC! :thumbsup2

If you have a specific resort like BCV or BWV you want to stay at for the holidays this will be a bigger issue for you than UY, since many popular resorts like BCV book up before 7 month window for the holidays.

We'd always go in those months mentioned because I don't tolerate the heat of Florida well and am the kind of parent who won't expose her children to high heat because of risk of sunburn etc. November and December are out for us because our business is selling toys and so those are our busiest months.

Also living in the UK, holidaying in Florida in January breaks up the hideous winters we have here nicely! I also like quiet parks.

October or December UY sounds good to me - now to decide which resort.

Thank you for your replies.
