Use Year Quandary

I am trying to determine a UY for a 125+ points add on at VGC. Decided I could use some other opinions. Currently, have March and September UYs with points at BCV, BWV, SSR & BLT. Two use years have worked well for our visits to WDW -- Jan (marathon), April (F&G), Oct (F&W), and early Dec.

I am located on the East Coast while the rest of my family lives in CA near DLR. I usually go out in Aug, Nov, and April/May.

Here is what I am considering in this decision:
- Per my guide 09 points (would make DH happy) are available for September, but not March.
- With a September UY am concerned about being able to use points if an August reservation is canceled.
- 09 points are available with a new UY, but would have to buy 160 points and pay closing costs as this would be a new contract. Not sure if I want to manage a third UY.
- And as we all know over time travel dates and habits can change.

What UY do you think would work best for the VGC points?

There should be no closing costs since you are already a DVC member - even for a new purchase. For trips in August and November, a June or August Use Year would work well for you if you have concerns about cancelling. If you have managed well with 2 Use Years, I doubt you'll have any problem with a third. We've had 4 different Use Years and never lost a point.

We have two and it seems everytime I have to tell member services or they will miss it. We just went thru a nightmare with them that took a month to get straightened out. Don't create issues if you don't have to.

Since you already have 2 UY, I wouldn't do a third UY based on your trip scenarios unless you plan to sell one anyway. There really is no perfect UY for your situation but it sounds like March would be better than Sept if you want to stay with your same UY options. I wouldn't do it for the 2009 points esp since you're only picking up an extra 6 months in time and you'd be taking a risk of losing points for what sounds to be a far larger % of any trips using those points.
